Attn Skin Authors: Need help testing new upload script

Includes Progress Meter

We have been working on developing a new upload page for WinCustomize. The new page incorporates a progress meter to indicate how much is remaining on the upload.  This should be helpful for those uploading large files or on a slow connection as you will know just how far along you are in the upload process.

Since it is a major code rewrite we need to battle test it before we replace the current upload.  So for all you skin authors, if you are going to be uploading some new skins we sure would appreciate if you could try out this new page and let us know how it works.

The temporary URL is https://www.wincustomize.com/upload2.aspx

When reporting problems please let us know what browser you are using and what version.  This is extremely important information that we will need to reproduce the problems as we have browser specific code in this page to make it work properly.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Here are a few things to point out about known issues with the upload form that you should be aware of and that you don't have to mention here in this thread. This will help save us some time sifting through the comments.

Issue: The upload form seems to stop after reaching 100% in FireFox.
How to produce: After a user clicks the upload and once the upload reaches 100% the upload progress box disappears (and the website is masked to prevent user clicking for the final portion of the upload process) however once this is done, the page seems to stop functioning.

Issue: The upload form takes a while to respond after the progress bar reaches 100% in Internet Explorer.
How to produce: Upload a screen shot and a .Dream file using Internet Explorer. Once the upload progress box reaches 100%, the progress box is closed and a mask overlay appears which disables the forms. After this, the page seems to be doing something from which I can see from the status bar. After what may appear to be a little while, the page refreshes and continues on

I uploaded a rainlender skin (emanon) about a minute ago. Everything went very smooth. I experienced exatly what Dark Star said using IE 7 in XP. Mask was not very noticable and might confuse people.
FOLLOW UP- Thumbnail in the preview gallery is borked.

Trying to upload a wallpaper to my personal gallery resulted in the following. I am sure the details for uploading were correct since I goofed the first time. (emanon1280)

Your skin has failed to upload.
Error code: UploadDetails

Note: Please give credit where credit is due if you have based your skin off the work of others. Skins submitted to the Stardock File Library may also be made available in archives, collections, compilations, libraries, or the like without prior additional notification (all author credits will be maintained).

Using IE7 trying to upload a rainlendar skin it didn't display any dialogue in the upload dialogue. 0kb of 0kb..etc.
Made it to the Mask, progress bar was active but eventually I got IE page cannot be displayed. I'll try again in the morning.

follow up.... Tried again this morning and everything is fine.

another follow up.... I tried uploading the wallpaper that wouldn't go last night and it went just fine this morning also.

yet another follow up... uploaded a windowblinds skin. all went fine except the thumbnail preview in the gallery is borked as others have been. These 3 have bad thumbs..emanon wb skin, emanon rainy skin, colorpalooza rainy skin.

Night Train, Thanks for the feedback!  The guys are plugging away at this to get all the quirks fixed.

So let me ask  you this...  During the upload process when it worked did you like having the progress meter?  Did you find that it made the upload process better?

Most certainly.

Thanks Night Train for testing.  We put up a new build that should take care of the issues that you were having as well as some of the issues that Dark-Star has posted.

Please feel free to try the new code that was put up at the same address as before.

I am using it now and getting odd results:

IE7 on Vista Ultimate.
Uploading a 37MB dream.

After I hit Upload the Progress Meter came up. However it will show my progress for approximately 1.5 seconds, then it will switch and show 0 progress. Then another 1.5s later it will switch and show my progress again. And so it goes as I am 90% done now.

For example, it will say:
0 KB of 0KB (0%) complete
null time elapsed. null time remaining.

then it switches and says
1329KB of 37303KB complete
5s time elapsed. 12:10 time remaining

then it switches back to 0 of 0.
then it switches back to my progress.

And now as I finish this post I see that the mask went away entirely and I am back to the upload form with all my inputs as if the upload failed. No errors or anything.

I will try submitting again.

OK I tried again. This time I did not get the flip flopping. The progress meter seemed to work ok. I left and when I came back though, the meter was gone and I was still on the upload page with all my information typed in.

I cannot find my dream uploaded so wtf? I guess it just is not working for me.

Nuts I give up.

I have tried both upload links on a XPPro/ie6 system several times and always the uploads fail. If I use the old upload page, I get a "server not responding" error. If I use the new upload page, after a long while and most of the progress is done I get a new page which says the upload failed. For the Error it says "UploadDetails". It then has a note about giving credit for submissions etc.

I've wasted too much time making this dream and even more trying to upload it.

Hi!

I began to upload dream files 2 days ago. I uploaded without problems a few files, but now, since wednesday night it refuses to upload anything at all... I tried several times, it begins and more or less at the middle of the upload IE returns with the error message saying it can't display the page.
This dream file is 30Mb and I'm using IE 7, which comes with Vista. Please help!!

Thanks!

Hi again...

Well, tried to upload one more time... This time returns with the message that my skin failed to upload.
The progress bar appeared, run until I uploaded 7Mb and next gave me the error message...
This is very annoying, I already spent much more time trying to upload the dream, than the time I spent on making it...
