Computer Upgrade and Repair Ripoff Redux : Firedog

In my last article I mentioned how bad Best Buy bites for their prices to install software.

Well... Heres a new one. Circuit City Firedog.

Look at their prices..... Software installation $29.99 Okay that sounds a little bit more reasonable then what I saw at Best Buy. But are some people going to use that just to install Junior's ABC 123 game because they dont know how? Better let Junior install it himself/herself. Turns out kids know much more how to operate their parents computers then the parents themselves. Oh yeah... and theres more too. If you need someone to come out and install it in your own house, its much much more.... $140+ according to the firedog website. Bah... no thanks. It turns out many kids know more about their parents computer then the parents themselves know. Why not just let them install it..... To diagnose PC Problems , $59 in store and $159 in home. Ouch. Theres some free programs out there that can do that and tell you what is wrong. Or maybe you can remember the last thing you did before it went wrong... thats your clue :) Installation of Operating Systems are very very pricey. $119 in store and $229 in home. $229 !#$#$%^%^!!!!!!!! Windows Costs that much and you buy windows, its like paying double for it. Might as well get the best version of windows out there for that price if you go about your money like that..... The nerve...... To dust out your PC... $14.99 RIPOFF ALERT! You can go to Office Max, get a can of air, and do this yourself for much much less then $14.99 Even lesser if you have a Frys Electronics near you. Wireless Networking Setup? Riiiiiight........................ $79.99 for that. A good portion of you are probably going to make the switch to broadband with the purchase of a couple of new computers.... Comcast and SBC usually does this for free on their visit to your house for first time setup......... And if you have to have Comcast do that... its usually a $29.99 service call. Takes them relatively no time. Okay.... finally we have services that teach you how to use your mp3 player , or use your digital camera... in your own house. Thats a sad $149........... Makes me want to cry just looking at those prices on firedog.com Just how do they do it!?!?!?!

There you have it folks..... Another site broken down pricewise..... My overall opinion : Overpriced and uneccesary. Come on.. if you cant read a manual for a digital camera or an MP3 player.. which are extremely simple to use... it kind of defeats the purpose on why we learned to read , write and speak english, helping ourselves to the rich world of technology out there... Oh well.
