in the year 2190 the united nations had become the one world government
in that same year scientists in the former united states had finally managed to break the light barrier with the huper drive engine
in 2195 contact was made with the alterians who offered to leave the humans alone for 27 years if the humans would give them the secret of the hyper drive
noting it would take them that long to learn how to use and design ships for its use
the united nations agreed with them
the lone voice against it was julie osterloh
2196 the un decides that it is time to finally colonize mars and begins to take bids for the construction of the colony ship
not wanting to waste time in sending 20 or 30 people at a time they decide to build a colony ship capable of carrying 500 million
julie osterloh wins the bid for the contract. and so the 5 year long construction project begins
unkown to the powers to be during the 5 years julie replaces the crew and colonists with members of her own family and others who are loyal to her
the un never asked why the colony ship to mars was being built as a sleeper ship
the osterloh family had plans to steal the ship and head out into open space
they were able to slip the sleepers into the ship no questions asked but also knew that they wouldn't be able to get hyper drive engines onto a plantary ship
some how she was able to steal the blue prints for the engine
during the month leading up to the launch of the ship. the was a huge celebration a month long holiday
after the ship launched the captian julie osterloh followed the route that would take her to mars until she reached the half way point.
now that no system ships could catch and stop them. she brought up to full throotle heading for deep space.
the last thing she heard from earth was. WHAT ARE YOU DOING as she turned of the radio
and so for 15 years they traveled through space with the bulk of the passengers asleep and the crew taking turns at running the ship
at the end of the 15 years they spotted a system that was simirler to sol system and decided to land on the earth like planet
they named the system after the captian JULIE
