Functional Turrets...

I wasn't sure how to title this topic, but heres the question; Do the turrets on the starships move... like Homeworld 2 turrets?

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I just realized that I couldn't find any information on this.

Orbital turrets move but turrets on ships currently do not. Originally, this was deemed too expensive with the number of ships and onboard weaponry. However, we may add it in the future as an optional graphical enhancement animation for those with powerful computers.

Edit: I should point out that while they don't move, their positions and firing cones are still very important tactical considerations.

Wouldn't mind setting the date to the release of the beta?

this is fine with me.

although any massive turrets (i.e. 1/5 the size of the ship or larger) should still be moving.
thats assuming these exist

So, all the turret-like objects on ships aren't animated, well, that is if they are even actual turrets? Any case, it wont bother me much with past real-time empire games lacking animated turrets as well, and I'm sure modifications will eventually come out boasting insane ammounts of turrets.

I think people will accept that non-moving turrets is a good compromise to keep CPU load down. Most games are put-offs because of performance more then anything..cough..sup..cough..com.

I would the like option to turn on the ability to allow the turrets to move, one of the reason I loved Homeworld 1 & 2, is because of the turret animation.

I love them as well, but in my case I'm sure it's down to "turretc=no game". So I definitely vote against turrets and play the game...

although it would be nice to watch your turrets in action and then focus and try to follow each round hitting a hull on its target. but i don't think i'd be spending too much time on a turrets movement when i have other ships to drool on. i mean as long as the weapons damage is noticeable.

you could avoid the issue all together by not have weapon turret mounted by merely hullmounted with a small swifel.

I believe the movement of the turrets just adds to the whole experiance. It makes it more realistic if you will.

I think with a quadrant or a galaxy to run, we all will be too busy to really notice the *small* details. Still they are always appreceated.

The Devs could always play it safe by taking a page from HW. That is all PD weps dont have a turret and fire in a full spherical arc while anything that is bigger then ship to strike Fight/bomber/hvy bombmer will have a mount of some kind and be visible. That would be enough, and asking for more with a game set-up like this would be asking for something we don't really need, nor do we really need be concerned with something that is for hte most part insignificant when compared to what the development team is trying to accomplish.

No doubt. Any detail adds to the experience, but I do prefer being able to play the game at all.   This is definitely something people will miss when zooming in so I'm sure it will be added in the future, whether as an add-on or Sins 2. For now I want the strategy and nice fleets...

What do you think the AI is for?! For me its there to manage my empire so i can sit there and watch the turrets shoot at stuff (no really, i spent so much time just watching space battles in HW/HW2).
Well really, turrets not moving may not be much of a problem, its all dependent upon ship design. If the ships are designed to look right & fire in a way that dosent require a turret then who cares (say the Iron cannon ships from HW), for some of the larger ships though i would like to see the odd turret here and there that tracks its target.
