The High Resolution Graphics Mod by LogicSequence

Do you like eye candy? Do you wish Galactic Civilizations 2 had Higher Resolution textures? Do you wish the planets and solar systems looked more realistic? Do you think your PC can HANDLE IT?

Welcome players of Galactic Civilizations 2, to The High Resolution Graphics Mod by LogicSequence. I've been developing this mod for some weeks now, and the time is near for it's release.

In short, this mod will:
Replace the textures for all the races' homeworlds with new, original higher resolution versions.
Replace all Class 0 planet textures with new, original higher resolution versions.
Replace all ring and moon textures with new, original higher resolution versions.
Replace all cloud textures with new, original higher resolution versions.
Include authentic all-new Raw Terrain maps for all of the races' homeworlds.
Add more color variation to the background nebulae.

This mod isn't for the older PC. Some of the textures in this mod are 4096 x 2048 pixels, and many are 2048 x 1024, or 1024 x 512. If your PC meets the recommended system requirements for Galactic Civilzations 2: Dark Avatar, you should be able to run this mod without any problems.

Check out number 2 on the list of mod changes. None of the default planetary graphics will be reused in the mod.

i should've been more specific - i wanted to know if there were new planet skins in addition to improved versions of the old ones. but it looks like there indeed are, based on some of the newer screenshots. kudos and a half to you!!!

this mod is going to make me almost prefer discovering planets i can't inhabit.

you mentioned updated star graphics. any new colors? i'd love a "dark star" version of the purple star, but i don't understand the way star graphics are built well enough to do it myself. by dark star, i mean med purple to nearly black, rather than med. purple to nearly white.

Unfortunately, no new colors. However, the graphics of the stars are more detailed. And the stars now have some new corona or ray graphics. Also the colored stars give off different colored light now, I.E. red stars shine red light on the nearby planets.
Can we have a pic of the coloured light coming off the stars?
Can't wait until wednsday? Well, ok, but only a few.

freakin awesome! i was just thinking that'd be cool.

i think i'll have to work on some new planet types, myself.

So is this mod Metaverse friendly?

No. You could get just the textures and replace the existing ones with them, but you can't use the other changes such as colored starlight and the RAW maps.

Lovely lighting, makes the planets really seem to belong.

What happens if the stars are very close together?

e.g.
Star-Planet-Star

Kryo's right. However, once you get the mod, if you would like it to be MV friendly, you'll have to strip out everything but the replacement image textures.

AFAIK only the planets in a particular star system are affected by that star's light. So basically, it wouldn't be an issue. Planets of a Red star system would be in red light, and the planets in a green star system right next to it would be in green, with no overlap.

I was hoping for overlap.

Kryo cant we get this mod at least MV compatible?

Must be able to use your powers of persuasion on Cari and Brad. Esp seen as Brad has already said this mod rocks!

If only

But no, the only way to have a metaverse-compatible mod is and will remain doing it without changing any of the xml files in MetaverseData. Outside of those files, anything's game.

Logic can you then please release a version for just those who use MV games as well.

NOTES:

-Hey!!!! that was my idea! back then in May 2006!!

-The problem with this mod is that all textures are really big sized and 20 MB won't be enough to your mod. trust me, I know this stuff

-pretty sure those textures are from the internet and mostly the Celestial Motherlord...

-I hope you give credit to those who made those texture, unless you made them yourself, which seems... well, can't be!

I got lots of screenshots of that, infact, go to Screenshots of mods and see my post. it should be here in the mods forum...

don't take all credit to yourself.. please... why Brad couldn't saw my post ah? you at Star dock don't like me very much don't you?

Logic is a professional 3d modeller, FYI.
