Here's What The World Book Says About Noah

Noah, according to the Bible, was the only righteous, God-fearing man of his time. Genesis 6-9 tells that he was chosen by God to keep some people and animals alive during the Deluge, or great Flood. Noah warned people for 120 years that the Flood was coming. During that time, he built a ship, called the ark, which was 450 feet long. He took into the ark his family, and enough birds and animals to repopulate the earth. The rain poured for 40 days and 40 nights.

After 150 days when the flood had started, the waters dropped enough that the ark was able to rest on the mountains of Ararat. Noah let loose a raven that did not return. Then he sent out a dove, and it returned because it could find no place to perch. He sent out the dove two more times. On the second flight, it returned with an olive branch in its mouth. Noah and the animals left the ark later to begin a new life. Noah offered sacrifice to God for deliverance, and God promised him that He would never send another flood to destroy the earth. He made the rainbow a sign of that promise. He commanded Noah and his descendants to respect human life and to punish murder with the death penalty.

Noah's sons were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Shem became father of the Semitic peoples, including the Jews and the Arabs. Ham was the father of the Hamitic peoples. Japheth was father of peoples of Asia Minor and Europe. In traditions originally unrelated to the Flood, Noah is pictured as a gardener, and credited with the discovery of wine.

He took into the ark his family, and enough birds and animals to repopulate the earth.

He actually brought two of "every living thing of all flesh" and of "every sort" (Gen 6:19), one male and one female. And not just birds and animals but "of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind". In addition God commanded him to take seven pairs of those animals that were "clean" by God's law and seven pairs of birds.
This is also made easier and more believable when you read on and discover that God said that "two of each kind will come to you to keep them alive." So we realize that Noah didn't have much searching and hunting to do after all.

More food for thought.

Makes you wonder how much of the Bible Marvin has actually read, or whether he gets this straight out of pamphlet.

Everyone can always learn more from the Bible and not one person in this world can claim to know all of it and its mysteries.
