Imperial Reserves

I do not know if this has been suggested before but how about making Imperial Reserves into the game. Like in Immortal cities: children of the nile. I mean real world countries have oil reserves, gold reserves, food reserves, water reserves, raw material reserves, etc. Let me know if you like this idea. It's been used in countless games.

I played CotN some (liked it a lot for the short while it stayed fresh for me).

I think what you're asking is to have a commodity layer added to the currency system in the GCII economy. I doubt we might see anything like that until GCIII, but I like the idea for a several reasons, not least b/c it has potential to support a *truly* alien culture that has no use for money.

If the Thalans are truly a Super Hive species, why would they have any use for money? Every member of the hive is born for a specific task or role and as long as the hive is running decently (no disasters, wars, etc.), the birth rate should not exceed available resources. They'd only need money if they wanted to start trading with an AI who didn't want anything but money.

And I won't even start on how wacky it sometimes seems to me that the GCII galaxy has a euro system (I say euro and not dollar b/c I'm assuming there's no capital market math working in the background to make my BCs have a different value than an AI's BCs).

Planetary and galactic recources which are needed before you can build certain wonders or units would introduce some new dynamics to the game. Players would have to get off their hands and take that recource if they want to be able to build those nice ships!

Certain planets have natural recources which can be traded with Alien races. different alien races pay much more for certain recources - Forcing players to find the best buyers.

Above concepts noted in some other games i have played

However, given the sheer size of galactic civilizations, it's likely that there are multiple hives, all of which act as an 'individual' and likely trade among themselves and could use currency.

I've always thought of Thalan morale as hives that don't like the boss hive (your leader), rather than individuals.
