JoeUser Gets a Facelift

Cleaner, faster, more efficient

We've spent the last two weeks remodeling JoeUser. As the site has become more popular we have been noticing the site getting slower. So in an attempt to make the site faster and more usuable we decided to scrap the old interface and redesign JoeUser from the Ground up with a more trim style that has much less HTML and Graphics.

The result, what you are looking at now. Well we hope you are anyways. If you are still looking at the old site just wait a little bit as your DNS hasn't updated to point to our new server. Yes, we also put JoeUser on a new server. We were having stability issues with one of our servers so we moved JoeUser to one of our backup servers. This should help the reliability of the site considerably as the old server was rebooting itself several times a day.

Hopefully we managed to get all the current features migrated properly. If you notice anything that isn't working or just isn't quite right please let me know by replying here.

Also, please let us know how you like the new design and if it feels any faster to you.

It is looking good. It is much better about space.

On the other hand, I can think of some things that would make it look better over the next few days I'll put together a list and we can talk about it. ;)

The other day It was hanging up so bad that I deleted my archives in hopes that it would speed up the loading of pages, but it didn’t, haven’t used the new design long enough to judge how fast it is, some aspects of the appearance were better before.

Right now it seems much slower. Not due to the layout but due to the database or some other thing.

Confused the heck out of me when it first came up with the new layout - but I have to say, it's looking good now that I've spent a little time with it. Good job, so far! ^_^

Ooops, looks like I left a debug variable on that was causing the site to do some uncessary processing. It should be faster now.

Woha WAY WAY faster. If I knew you wouldn't beat me up, I'd threaten you with a wedgie! ;)

I think the new format is good but what is up with the favorites tab on the right hand side. I can't do anything with it.

Favorites?

The favorites tab still needs some tweaking. It should only show up when the blog owner adds their own links.

I'd like to see the "filters" applied ot the recent artiles list again. I dont like when i go to check out recent articles and 3 of the 5 listed are "this is my blog, and i'm gonna put stuff on it" posts.

Hmmm
I just signed up so never saw the old site. This site is a wee bit hard to understand. I got confused over articles instead of posts and why some of mine were on the "My Articles" list and others were not. Also I saw a Favorites tab but it was a bunch of names I did not know.

Cama accross an interesting blogger - Draginol - but was unable to figure out how to add the name to my favorites and clear out the resident names.

Mostly I spent 20-30 minutes trying to see if there is a help file so I need not post my inability to figure it out. Could not find one so I thought my experiences might be helpful to you.

Can you answer some of my questions or point me in the right direction? If it is obvious and I am blind please just tell me so and accept ineffectual apologies.

Got so busy talking about my problems I forgot to tell you I think Joeuser has a slick fast loading interface. I like the colors and Joe's Top lists on the right.

Oh! and I wanted to edit my typo in my last comment. How do I do that?

Looking good and much faster.

Still waiting for some details on WHEN the last comment was posted (as well as how many posts). I still find myself loading articles to discover nothing new was posted since I last looked. Especially a problem with older articles. A sort by most recent comment date would also be lovely.

Paul.
