Problems When Burning DVDs

I've been using Multiplicity for several days, so far it's awesome! However I ran into a problem that you should be aware of. I was burning a DVD on my primary PC and trying to use my secondary PC at the same time. Actually I've tried this quite a few times and it always done the same thing -- it slows down tremendously first of all, but second, eventually the cursor stop being visible on the secondary PC and appears back on the primary PC. I can move the cursor back, but of course it's pain in the neck because unless I'm constantly watching the screen when I'm typing, I could be typing into the wrong PC session.

Then, on 2 other occasions, I totally lost the cursor and had to reboot.

Are you guys aware of these problems? Is there anything I can do about them?

Thank you,

Brent Hunter

It sounds like your machine is using 100% cpu time when you are burning a DVD which results in Multiplicity dropping the connection.

machine is using 100% cpu time ... which results in Multiplicity dropping the connection.

What length of time at 100% usage is allowed before MP drops?

Thanks Phoon, I was going to ask the same question.

Also, is there a way to modify this length setting? That might be a way to get around this problem...

Very strange, now I don't have any connectivity at all on my primary PC! The secondary PC shows as being connected but not the primary, and neither PC can find each other now.

So I deinstalled the software and reinstalled it on my primary PC and still no luck. I've also rebooted both PCs just to be sure.

Why would it suddenly stop working? I also stopped my firewall (Zonealarm) on both PCs to be sure that wasn't the problem and still no luck.

Help please!

Thank you!

When you telnet from one PC to the other over port 30564 do you get a MP response?

Start | Run | "Cmd" [Enter]
"telnet [ip address of other machine] 30564" [enter]

You should get "MULTIPLICITY{######}"

Interesting... if I try this from my primary PC (which is the one that isn't showing as being connected) to my secondary PC, the response is "could not open connection to the host on port 30564, connect failed.

However if I try to connect from the secondary PC to the primary, it shows MULTIPLICITYPB

To me this would suggest the problem is on the secondary PC because it's not accpeting connections but that is the one that shows as being connected so I'm confused now...

Any ideas anyone?

It sounds like you have a firewall blocking incoming connections from the primary running on the secondary.  Remember windows has its own firewall which may be turned on.

The icon on the secondary will always indicate it is connected because it does not know about connections (the UI is not handling the network sockets on a secondary)

What version and flavor of ZA is installed?

The firewall was not the issue because as I stated previously, I deactivated Zonealarm it on both machines (and I didn't have the Windows firewall turned on). In any case I deleted the entry for the secondary machine on the primary UI, and then re-added it, and now it works.

Although I'm glad it works, it's a bummer because I hate having little bugs in my system without being able to determine what caused them in the first place.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who chimed in.

Happy New Year!
