Who should be the next Price is Right host?

My wife and I were yakking about this last nite when one of the "newstainment" shows was running a segment about the pending retirement of Bob Barker as the host of The Price is Right (after 35 years hosting that show).

I admit, seeing the images of Barker from his younger days, compared with his obviously aged and somewhat frail current self, I was pretty awestruck at how long he's gone on as the host of the show.  I doubt we'll ever see someone doing the job as long, or at least into the later twilight of their years, as Barker has.

But, of course, before we get to see someone go after Bob Barkers record for longetivity, we have to see someone selected as the next host.  The question is, who would you choose and why do you think they'd make the perfect host of the show?

A couple of names came to mind for me.  One was current Survivor Host, Jeff Probst.  He's hosted game shows like Rock and Roll Jeopardy in the past and is a reasonably popular host of the reality TV series Survivor currently.  He's fairly youthful, and would seem to be able to hold up to rigors of hosting a show like The Price is Right.

After discussing that name my wife suggested she'd rather see a female host given a chance.  That prompted some discussion about a suggestion someone else was apparently making (Rosie O'Donnell).  We both agreed we'd rather not see her in the job and felt she'd be a bad choice because of baggage she'd bring to the job (her political views, her opinions which continue to be spouted via The View and such).

My suggestion at that point was perhaps Ellen Degeneres might make a good choice.  She's reasonably popular, perky and brings far less baggage than someone like O'Donnell.

Your choices?

Noone, I think Bob Barker IS the price is right.

In my honest opinion, they should take the show off of the air. As much as I love it and hate saying that. I really think they should.

Noone will be able to fill his shoes and the show will crash anyway. They might as well cancel it as a tribute to him.

I am with Caracarn on this one. Barker = Show. No Barker = Just cancel it already.

I don't think they should cancel it. I really don't know that this would be a great job for an a list type actor. I think they should pick some unknown, young, handsome guy and let him try it. Of course, the only time I ever watched Price is Right is when I was a kid and home sick from school. I mean who watches this show?

Now's the perfect time for a revamp. Make it "newer" and then a new host won't seem so out of place. Granted, you'll lose oldsters, but they are the ones that you'll lose with a new host regardless probably.

Nicholas Cage. Definately.

With a flame-thrower even.

heh.  I'm thinking Joe Pesci.  In that "You talkin' 'bout me?  You laughin' at me?!" type character from Goodfellas

Actually, someone else did come to mind though and I think they might make a decent choice:  Craig Kilborn.  Former host of The Late, Late Show (on CBS) and also former host of The Daily Show on Comedy Central.  To the best of my knowledge he's currently not doing *anything* since he retired from The Late, Late Show (passing the reigns on to Craig Ferguson).  He's "hip", youthful, I think would be popular enough with the young crowd and well known enough from his days on Comedy Central and The Late, Late Show to be able to hold his own in a role that requires some humor, some sarcasm, some wit and some encouragement for contestants.

They said the same thing about The Tonight Show without Johnny....in 1992. I agree with Baker....spruce it up a little, make it a little more hip. That's what they did with "Tonight" when Jay took over.

How about Caroline Rhea as host? She's cute and perky and funny. And, she has game show experience.

Of course, if you want to keep up with the "have your pet spayed or neutered" angle.....what about Pamela Anderson? She could end every show with a snappy little salute and a few perky words reminding us how KFC abuses and murders chickens and how fur is filthy and meat is murder. Probably pick up a nice, healthy new slice of the male population, too.
Also, they'd probably use good-lookin' men as the new "Barker's Beauties"....an added benefit for the stay-at-home mom, female/gay work-at-homers, etc. "Pam's Pipefitters", maybe? How about "Pam's Playthings"? "Anderson's Adonises"?
