Getting Hammered

I do just fine for a long time but as my populations grow into the 20 millions my approval falls so low that I cant maintain anything, basicly I build half a dozen moral boosters and still have moral in the 40's or less, is this because of espionage or something I am missing because my tax's are super low.

There is an exponential increase in unhapiness for populations even slightly over 20'

never build more than 2 farms or one farm for home planets.

There is no technology or project that exists in the entire game to get your population above the 20 mark 'efficiently'

I don't let mine get above 15B for that reason. Overcrowding makes for seriously unhappy people.

Actually, the heavy penalties begin at 20 and get worse until you hit 25. Everyting after 25 billion is the same as 25. On a PQ 26+ planet it should be possible to build enough VR centers to allow for super large populations. You'll need at least eight, and that's if you put some of your starting points into Morale and are mining some morale resources, as well.

I usually try to build a mix of farms (and turn off AutoUpgrade for those planets, which is its own special pain in the neck) that will get me to around 19 billion on my larger planets. Even then, it takes about four VR centers to keep the masses happy. 15 billion is a good all-around limit that doesn't take much maintenance if you don't want to tinker with every planet individually.

Or just be totally evil and stick with the default government. Let the peasants suffer for their audacity to make a fuss.

The title of this thread is misleading... now i'm off to the bar.

And they're right, don't bother building more than 2 farms... It does make me wonder what the value of those triple farming spaces are though. It would be nice if food production provided from the initial colonies was halved, it would actually add some value into researching farms past Xeno Farming

The only use for the triple food bonus that I've found are for PQ7, PQ8 and PQ9 planets. Since these planets are limited to 10.2B, 14.6B and 20.0B respectively, it's "safe" to use 300% food bonus tiles, though admittedly you'll need to accept a lower approval rating on the PQ9 at 20B. You should also wait until terraforming is complete or you're neutral to make sure there's no PQ creepage.

Thanks for the insight!

I am currently in a map where none of the planets im playing on has more than one farm, oddly enough the event that keeps ocurring is the wormhole that opens up and increases population growth. That was great at the start of the game but now its just devestation my morale, seriously I am wondering why morale is so heavily affected by population.

That being said, I seem to have run into another paradox as well, the Yor seem to have the same level of technology, with no where near the same resources to generate this technology, and the graphs show that I am unbelievably ahead in technology. Yet they literally have far better military production, and weapons capabilities. This compounds my morale problams infanately. Though I am holding my own in the war I barely can shift the units around, develop technology fast enough to counter Yor military units, and build units to cover my losses.

Basicly any farm boosts my population to such an insane level that I will get well over 20b people...

So I still question weather having 25 billion people, and providing for those 25 billion people should still cost you an enormous portion of your morale.

The farm production has been lowered in the most recent game updates, but I have mine modded at the original levels.

A single Advanced Farm on the home planet will bring the population to 20B, and 15B on any other world of sufficient PQ.

But never will a single farm allow a population of over 20B.

try building two moral structures per planet. That should be sufficient unless you havn't upgraded the moral technology at all? Later when you have maximum moral technology, you should be able to increase farming to have 20b population.

I have never found the Yor to be a challenging opponent. They always seem to get pounded out of existance by other races in all the games i play.

If your having trouble militarily then you could try a sneaky trick i like...

begin to specialise in weapons least used by the AI, trade liberally all the other weapons technology. This will result in the AI building counter measures against other AI races and not you!
