I'm certain that many of you have already read this report. However, I just ran across it the other day, and found it quite interesting. Being a novice when it comes to politics, I would like to hear what some of you die-hards have to say about the report in general.

In light of the importance of Iraq to United States interests and the future of the region, there is urgent need for a bipartisan, forward-looking assessment of the situation in Iraq.

At the urging of Congress, the United States Institute of Peace is facilitating the bipartisan Iraq Study Group, led by co-chairs James A. Baker, III, former secretary of state and honorary chairman of the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University, and Lee H. Hamilton, former congressman and director of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. The Iraq Study Group will conduct a forward-looking, independent assessment of the current and prospective situation on the ground in Iraq, its impact on the surrounding region, and consequences for U.S. interests.

The report largely didn't say anything or recommend any real changes in policy beyond fielding more trainers into Iraqi units. It was a huge "meh" when it came to actual policy shifts beyond James Baker's usual "Make Israel give something up and all the Aab nations will fall into line like a miracle from heaven" meme.

One thing that is certain, the Study Group's call for bi-partisan solutions was about shot down within minutes as both sides started pointing fingers and saying "I told you so".

I felt is was not a real group effort.. It was mostly a James Baker report.

To me it is not a valid report.. no military minds on the panel.

i doubt that "most here have read it" actually. most people will parrot the 3 lines their favorite talking head or columnist feeds them.

as far as the report itself goes, i've read some of it, but not all. when i do read it all, i will be able to offer some more opinion.

But isn't that the nature of all out politics Doc?

as far as the report itself goes, i've read some of it, but not all. when i do read it all, i will be able to offer some more opinion.
