GalCiv II & Clans

Hey everybody, I'm Tenaka, a relative new player in the Galactic Civilisations II universe! I've been looking over the main site here with an eye to check how viable GalCivII might be for clan support - I personally think the game is class, but I'm a little unclear about the multiplayer aspect of the game, which I've managed to find out is termed the MetaVerse. Glad to see my research skills aren't tarnished too much

I thought the best people to ask would be the community, and wondered if you could give me an idea how the whole thing works? And if the game itself would be suited to clan-play?

I'm seeing groups of people here in the MetaVerse which certainly suggests the whole thing is community-based (ideal for clans), but hoped somebody could give me a breakdown on how it all works?

Many thanks for your time,

Tenaka

Ah, my apologies - it seems as though I jumped the gun. I've just found out there is (as yet) no multi-player. Sorry for flogging a dead horse there, I'm sure this one has been all over the forums many times.

But still, if someone could explain the MetaVerse for me regardless, I would be very grateful!

Best,

Tenaka

Welcome to the forums, Tenaka-san: You log in initially (through the main game screen) to create a character to have a name to post your scores to. Then, when starting a new game, (while still logged in), the parameters you chose will be checked to see if they correspond to those allowed in the Metaverse. Certain things are not allowed, in order to keep things fair for everyone. Most mods are not allowed, as well as certain custom racial characteristics. After this the game should start normally. Just play the game as you always do. You don't have to log in every time you play. Play, save, play some more; and when you finish, the game will prompt you to submit or not. You can create as many characters as you wish, playing each as you choose. Medals will be assigned according to your choices. Yes, there are 'clans' here, only they are called 'empires'. You are free to join any of them you choose. Go to the Metaverse forum, read the posts that are submitted on any of the empire posts, and make your decision whether to join or not. If you choose to join an empire, then your score will be added to the collective empire score. (in addition to your own single score total).

Mistralok did a good job of describing the Metaverse and Empires in his first post. I'd recommend that if you're interested in joining an empire that you read through some of the empire threads and find one that best suits you. Some empires are theme based, some are not. By reading through a few pages of each, you'll get a pretty good feel for the type of people that are active there.

Have fun with the game and happy hunting!

Thank you very much for that! I represent a Star Trek clan that has been in existence for over 7 years, and because of the moddability of the game (to say nothing of the excellent gameplay) we're informally feeling out the game etc, you know how it is. The only negative, of course, is the temporary lack of online multiplayer, but I don't know; the scope of the game is huge. Regardless, thank you for the information, I very much appreciate it

Been looking over that, some very talented people working on that stuff! I wasn't aware there was a full mod available, when I can free up some bandwidth I'll be sure to dload it.

Oh, and a Happy Christmas to everyone too
