Star Trek: Legacy

Is it really as bad as all that?

I've read some truly stinging reviews of Star Trek: Legacy. I live in the UK so won't get it until the 22nd, anyone here from the States or anywhere else that has it, what's actually wrong with it, most of the community reviews on Gamespot just say how disappointing it is without going into any real detail.

All the games released these days have negative moaners spamming the game forums.

I've played mission 1 and so far I like. I'll report more as I get in more missions.

Not sure what you've been reading but the game is solid. Nice story line, challenging missions, decent game play. Hopefully you won’t have to wait too long to be able to play it. OK, back to the game.

Upon further inspection, while the gameplay may not be a problem, it seems PC games have got the short end of the stick with the game only being ported to PC as an afterthought since the graphics and controls seem subpar. That said I'm saying all this second hand and what may not work for somebody else may work for me.

There's no denying the graphical issue though, even on the highest end machines they don't seem to compare with the 360 in terms of lighting and general textures

I've been seeing that in other game forums as well. A number of people have complained the controls for the PC version are rather clunky and/or unintuitive. Still, most of them seem to be enjoying the experience overall. To echo what jakanc said, the storyline and general gameplay are apparently quite good actually, and that's what's most important.

Aye, I'm probably fretting over nothing because of all this hype, I am so psyched for this game and it can really throw you when all this negativity starts flooding in all at once!

Here are the following problems I have had with star trek legacy.
1) There is absolutely no star trek music in the game
2) There is no motion capture or even a picture of the captains of the game---not even in the cut sequences.
3) The game does not provide the player with a way to map the keys---the key mapping you use is like what one person posted "playing twister with your fingers"
4) The graphics are subpar---the explosions are just ugly
5) The controls are non responsive many times
6) If anyone is dying to play the game just get star trek encounters for the ps2--its pretty much the same game and encounters is only going for $15.00! and also has all the captains doing the voices as well as the same missions and multiplayer
7) The multiplayer is hurrendous---worst i've seen so far
8) I think many other people would agree the game just feels rushed!!!!

Unfortunately, it seems like a lot of games lately have been rushed. It could be just a few and I have just had the luck of picking them to play but it seems that a lot of developers think it is OK to rush a game out and then try and fix it with patches and stuff. I myself would rather wait an extra month or whatever it takes and have a game that has been tested properly. Anyway, I do like the game but I have to agree that the controls can be a bit frustrating at times.

Well.. The game takes less than 10 hours to finish. The controls are awkward. The storyline is minimal. The involvement of Sisko and Janeway are cursory. The multiplayer is worthless..

What else....

Ehhh... The game sucks.

IGN has reviewed Legacy and gave it a 5.9. The game is obviously made around the Xbox 360 controls, so that version should do better (one would think anyway.)

It has, the reviews for Official Xbox magazine and game informer are generally around the 8 out of 10 mark

Nasty review from IGN.

Its the most incomplete game ive ever played.

1. They gutted the campaign there are gaping plot holes, I was often left wondering wtf how one mission led to the next.
2. The flight and camera controls are horrible and not remappable.
3. They removed the much hyped custom captain/ship upgrading.
4. The graphics are sub par for the hardware demands that they make - the game runs like ass and doesnt even look prettier for it.
5. No shield arcs.
6. Took out the ability to save game during missions.
7. No loops.
8. Fleet AI is horrible. They run into each other, wont warp to a location simultaneously, randomly forget thier orders...
9. Targeting system is buggy torpedoes that are 'LOCKED ON' will sometimes just fly straight without even trying to track the enemy.
10. Reduced from 8 down to 4 player multiplayer, which has horrible connection issues. No server control, you cant name/password/maprotate... You cant select what ships your enemies have in skermish mode. The MP patch they released like the first day introduced new bugs.
11. Quite a few conflicts with Trek canon.
12. The devs dont seem to care, there were so many complaints on their forums they have made one 'complaint thread' so they can put them all in one place to be ignored and are locking all the rest.

If your a Trek fan expect to be greatly dissapointed.

Crappy, sub-par game.

All the previous criticisms are valid. This is a game that you'll be mad at yourself for wasting $40 on.

I'm sure 10 year olds playing the X-Box version will love it. All others should steer clear.
