What I really like in single player only games

make it fun

I really like when my ships that have the most kills and ofcourse survive the missions are rewarded with medals and armour/weapon upgrades. I also like to name my ships.

A ship to receive medals upon completing a mission gives you joy and and attachment which make the game more enjoyable. Also I really enjoy when lets say one of my ships gets a weapon ugrade for eg. every 3 missions making the unit stronger and powerfull.

If the ships that surive missions do not get medals and no weapon ugrade than there is no personal attachement and the game becomes less enjoyable.

Sins has a feature like that already implemented

That brings up another question. Will sins have that feature in MP? That would be awesome. (But also have the right balance so it wont be whoever plays the most will win)

personally I believe that it should be no a switch (like so many other things)

but yes, I do believe that there will be rewards in MP

well the thing is the rewards wont be a constant. they will be just like every other game....everything is a clean slate at the start of a game and as your ships progress and survive battles..they gain basicly battle experience and are able to fight slightly better. so it wont really matter on how long the guy is playing but moreover how long the ship itself has survived through combat and what it has learned through its many battles.

yeah, but I dont want to lose 3 ships and then suddenly

Ok i'm a bit lost. Will it be like BF2142 and BF2 where your rewards are saved and you can view/change them on the main menu? Or is it everytime u play a new MP game your rewards will be gone and you have to start over?

the battlefield series is different as it basicly keeps track of your player and the awards and weapons you unlock. RTS games are quite different especially in the aspect of sins where you will have a reward system for individual ship survial not in the aspect of unlocking cool radically different stuff to use..but slight enhancements maybe to armour...fire control...and manuevering. basicly...it will be like the real world...your ships survive battles and like most people...learn from some mistakes and learn some new tricks that may save time or help out and they try to implement them. this sorta goes along the lines of individual ship XP and reward system because as IC also stated...now and then some ships might be able to get new stuff...like maybe a nice engine upgrade or weapons upgrade or something of that sort for just that ship alone....like a ship refit.

as far as this being a constant in a single player campaign for sins...i cannot say. will just have to wait for a better answer from IC or stardock as they are the ones that have access atm and IC has final say in all matters.

hopefully i helped clear up any slight confusion and didnt add to it (rather hard for me most of the time to simplify what goes on in my head for others to be able to understand)
If that was simplified, then I don't want to see the full version.

Basically, everytime you start a MP game, all you ships are reset. THey only gain experience in each seperate game.

That would suck so bad. I hope sins is not like that

That only makes sense. Sins is not a persistent universe game. It is like HW in that respect: every new game means that you start from scratch again. You have to do your research again, build your ships again, etc. If you got to keep all of your stuff then hit wouldn't be so much about who is more skilled, it would just be who has been playing longer accumulating more toys like one of those RPGs.

definately, I didnt buy a game to be called a noob just because I dont own my own multi-verse.

Those with more time inadvertantly become better; then it no longer becomes about strategy/tactics but more about who has less of a life* (a la MMORPGs).

*figuratively speaking

Rakion and BF2142 did a good job of managing something like that without over powering the player (i.e. i was lv. 1 and i beat a server filled with lv.10 ppl).

Shattered Galaxy is one example of what sins should not be like.

Like i said, it wont be "overpowered" or broken. It just lets you keep your awards and new equipment instead of researching and winning those "awards" all over again everysingle battle
Reply #15 Top
Saying it wont be overpowered is easy but how would you suggest it work? I dont think youre going to be able to avoid making it overpowered :/. Say one game i finish with 20 level 7 battlecruisers: i cant possibly start the next game I play with those 20 battlecruisers! the game would be over in seconds unless my opponent was similarly equipped

The only other alternative I can see is that when i DO end up building a battlecruiser, I get one of the ones from the previous game popping out but as has allready been pointed out, thats just an unfair advantage against someone whos played less than you.

For those reasons I just dont think a reward system would work but that doesnt stop theyre being other ways to get attached to your units. Maybe the game could keep a record of your flagships number of frags and list them in its infocard? It wouldnt give any bonus but it would look cool also the ability to chose your flagships name and have it keep that name from game to game? something like that would be fine and would not unbalance the game IMO

Each multiplayer campaign is like an alternate reality, your starting again from the beginning. TEC, Advent, and Vasari all with their goals and the personal aspirations of their leader (The people playing the game).

A persistent universe would ruin the game.

There are no "awards." Its kind of like playing pokemon: each time you start a new game, you don't have all the same pokemon at the same levels (you don't even have them in your pokedex.).

LizardWatcher, just a question (no offense ment in any way), but do you have the beta? These awards just wouldn't work in multiplayer if they carried over to everygame. Say you get SINS but you also have a job and so you can't play multiplayer that much. And that these "awards" carry over. Any person who doesn't have a job or social life (aka no life) could PWN you everytime you get on.

Like people have said: it only works in MMORPGs.

1) alot of those unlocks sucked worse than the defaults 2) level doesn't matter in that game: only skill 3) the "awards" in sins don't really compare: in each BF2142 game you have you whole body but in SINS you start with a whole new empire each time so the awards can't really carry over (bad comparison, can somebody explain this better?)

experience from single player mission to single player mission is fine, but in MP it would be a very unfair advantage if you play against someone that has 3 or 4 high level ships versus someone that has 1 L1 cap ship and a few frigates, and as some are doing in C&C3 ranked games (of though units do start of the same) but high ranked players are playing with low ranked players just to get points and achieve a higher rank, but the point is, if sins have rank or ladder games then it would be very unfair to have a player that is starting out against someone that has played 10 games but is playing against low level players simply to get his fleet higher still

sorry but something like that would be a very bad idea, and may turn off a lot of people playing sins online

Hello everyone, my first post and I just missed by one day the chance to get Beta 2, but my pre-order etc for Beta 3 is in the bag so I'm looking forward to seeing you all in the future.
Trawling these forums, this post caught my eye, and I'd just finished reading up on what people hope for with the clans and thought maybe a combination of two things could be achieved. As I said, I've not had the chance yet to play so I know nothing really of the mechanics yet, but do you think it would be a possibility for the established clans to have a kind of "bank vault" where the best / most experienced or rewarded ship of each type from across the clan is stored and can be called in at a critical point in the game, kinda like the cavalry? It could be destroyed, so think carefully before bringing her in, or not, she respawns for future games and is the pinnacle of the clans achievement?

Anyway....hi

Heck, even keeping ship levels between games would be way overpowered, guys!
In agreement with pretty much everyone here. Start from scratch in every game, only way to keep a level playing ground.

What maybe an option is that the maximum ship level and it awards is stored in your "profile". Then people can see that a person plays squillions of games but the highest level ship they've had is 3 or 4.

What about something like BFME where the hero restarted at level 1 each game, but total kills and all stats like that were carried over, and medals awarded. (IE Orcslayer Medal for having killed a total of 1000 orcs or more, balrog slayer etc etc)

Edit: Perhaps this could be added with a custom capital ship sorta deal. Where one of your capital ships could be personally designed by you. Would cost more but would be far superior. (IE a sort of points system, so if I want a carrier with 10 bays, bam i got it, or if I want some random cross breed between X and Y I can make it) This would of course be limited to one in play per game. I dunno, could be fun

we should just get tanks.
That work in out space.
That have guns that shoot laser sharks...

This type of thread and "missle battery" thread just keep coming up way to much.

Adding in a really powerful custom capital ship (even a much more expensive one) would probably end up really screwing over the game balance. So I'd probably have to be against the idea.
