It was said when I was young that if you are under 30 and a conservative you have no heart. If you are over 30 and still a liberal you have no brain.
As a child I laughed at this statement because it was said by some old fart that just did not understand the ways of the world like I did. I knew it all and right was right and wrong was wrong. With a 39 year old son with piercings in his nose, ears and nipples I bristle. The fact that he has a doctorate in economics and the headmaster of a boarding school scares me. He tells me now that I am pretty smart for an old guy. My youngest son is 20 and he is just starting to realize I know what I am talking about. My middle child she was a piece of work! She knew it all from age 10. I tried to tell her that she should stay away from drugs; that kids would offer her drugs and it was ok to say no. Her brilliant 10 year old mind told me and I quote. "Daddy you don’t know anything about drugs; you grew up in the 60’s!" Ok some you need to clean off your screen and make sure your beverage has not shorted out anything.
I see liberals the same way I see my children when they were young. As children everything is given to them and they can’t understand why it is not this way for the rest of the world.
Liberals want to give away the store not realizing that everything costs something. Education is expensive, either you learn it in school or you learn it on the street as an adult but you will learn. The example I give is the minimum wage.
The minimum wage is designed for people starting out in the cold cruel world. It is not designed to support a family only the individual. As a person proves they are worth promoting they get a higher wage. The incentive of promotion is higher wage. Liberals think people that get minimum wage are to stay that way for life, they are too stupid to get a good job so the stupid minimum wage worker should be paid a living wage; one that pays all the bills and allows for luxury items. Where is the incentive to advance? My first job was a paper route, it paid 5 dollars a week. My next job was at a car wash it paid 20 and hour and I had to work my ass of to get it. 6 months later I was a partner in the business and still short of my 16th birthday. I dropped out of school and worked my ass off. Because I did not like or understand math I had no idea my partner was ripping me off. It took two years to figure I was being shafted. I took my savings and paid for enrollment in a boarding school the same one I dropped out of. In one year I did 9 through 12 and graduated. I paid for the school and I was not going to waste time or my hard earned money being popular with the kids. One way or another people will learn.
Paying a living wage only makes things worse for the individual and the nation as a whole, but it sounds nice. Why work hard if I make enough to support a family doing entry level work? The employer has to raise prices to pay the higher wages so now everyone needs a pay raise which means every other business has to raise prices. It spirals up and up and never ends.
If you look at the auto industry you will see a perfect example. The union demanded higher wages because the minimum wage was raised. They want paid time off, paid vacations, medical and dental. Meanwhile the new found riches the autoworkers received allowed them to pay for drugs and alcohol. Craftsmanship suffered. Poor quality cars did not sell so now the auto industry could not pay the fat wage they had promised. Did anyone think of demanding that people paid 35 dollars an hour should be sober and do the work at the best of their ability? Sorry that is crazy talk. The big three went broke and still have not recovered from the mistakes of the 70’s so now every car sold $2,500 of that goes to workers that don’t work in the form of pensions and medical care for retirees. What sounded great in the 70’s is killing the auto industry for a second time today. Because the price had to go up to support the retirees as well as the pay for the current workers everyone else needed pay raise to afford the car of their dreams. This is why bread is almost 3 bucks a loaf and milk it almost 3 bucks a gallon. In 1960 the minimum pay was eighty cents an hour. Now it is almost eight dollars and hour did anyone really make more money? No! You have a bigger check but your spending power is the same. Now if you go the way of the mean cold hearted conservative you will see that the minimum wage will get you moving up unless you are lazy. A security guard makes about $17 an hour to start; almost ten dollars above the minimum starting wage. The reason why; is the market demands security guards and if you pay minimum wage you get idiots. These are not the rent a cops of years ago these are semi-professional people. The market dictates the wage. If you are stupid and start a family before you can afford one then you have to learn faster. Upping the minimum wage will not help you until you are ready to help yourself.
Liberals have not figured this out yet. I can honestly say I don’t know anyone making minimum wage including my employees.
