Foundation 9 has snapped up Amaze Entertainment to bolster its total development team to a total of 725 employees. The move makes Foundation 9 the largest independent development collective in the world.

Amaze Entertainment was founded by the owners of Foundation 9, Francisco Partners, making the move only a matter of time. Amaze has focused primarily on handheld all-ages titles lately but has also made selected games for Windows and MacOS X. Titles range from high-profile movie tie-ins like Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia, to franchises like Spyro The Dragon and Hot Wheels.

"The team at Amaze has done a fantastic job in growing one of the most trusted and best run independent developers, period," said Jon Goldman, CEO of Foundation 9.

"Our combined strength in handheld will be unparalleled, which provides excellent balance to our growing roster of five plus next-gen titles," he added.

Amaze's studios - KnowWonder, Griptonite, Monsoon and Fizz Factor – will join Foundation 9's other studios - The Collective, Backbone Entertainment, Pipeworks, ImaginEngine and Digital Eclipse and the recently purchased Shiny Entertainment.
