What does "Watch This Character" do?

When you look at the games a character has submitted to the metaverse, there's a button with a magnifing glass and a tooltip description of "Watch this Character". If you click this button you get a message that says "You are now watching this Character", but otherwise I've seen no other effect of pressing this button.

I had assumed that by watching a character you'd see this character's stats along with your own, when you go to the metaverse topscores page, but no luck. What does this button actually do?

I guess no one knows what this does. It makes me think of the old Zork series where I push the big blue button and then wander from room to room looking for what's different.   

Perhaps this is like the scarlet fish from Zork III that I carried around forever until I finished the game and realized that it was a red herring.

It would seem only the designer knows and he might not frequent the forums.

While in the metaverse section of the site you can go to Account->Character Watchlist and see games submitted by any characters you have set to watch previously.  You can also stop watching them from there as well.

Turn off the water so you can get the platinum bar from the loud room.
