Congratulations Democrats, now DO something!

As everyone is seeing in various places, it looks like the Democrats will have control of the U.S. House of Representatives (unless someone digs up a completely miraculous number of votes some where out of the blue).  As the night wears on, it also looks like things will be close for control of the Senate (though I still think that Joe Lieberman should run as far and as fast away from the Democrat party as he can and make it even tougher for them, but that is a different story...)

Either way, now that the votes have apparently been cast, I want to see PLANS and IMPLEMENTATION of those plans.

Where is the Democrat plan to deal with illegal immigration?  Show us that you have one, pass something that U.S. citizens can be proud of, happy with, and is effective.  Don't just conveniently forget about that issue.

Don't go running to raise taxes or eliminate Bush's tax cuts.  Even if you try, it'll likely die via veto anyway.  Don't let the majority of those cuts expire or we'll all remember you as the party of increased taxes.

Get a handle on government spending.  Find places to cut the fat and not just in the Department of Defense which isn't really a good place to look anyway.

Basically have your celebration now, but then be ready to get to work and do the business of the country.  Just remember when the newly minted minority party starts playing the role of obstructionist that what comes around (or went around) goes around.  Don't cry because you get stymied at every turn and can't pass a damn thing without giving something up to bring over some more of the folks in the center.  If you try that you'll be seen as ineffectual and you'll ruin your chances to hold onto that newly gained power.

Personally I'm thinking that it could be fun to sit and wish failure upon our new leaders at least as much as they've been wishing failure upon the country for the last several years.  Bring on tax increases which are immediately followed by a harsh recession that is blamed on those increases.  Lets see unemployment go nuts.  Gas prices go back out of control.  Bring on the bad news and let it start sticking to the Democrats.  When it does, they'll be the bums that we'll blame and toss out the next time just as the supposed bums were (mostly) sent packing this time.

So, in other words, "democrats, congratulations, you won control of the House, now lets see if you can Out Conservative the Republicans." Is that really what you think they will do?

I agree though, we really don't want to watch the country go to pot, just so we can rub it in their faces. Too much good has happened in the last 6 years!

Now we'll see if the democratic politicians are democrats, or just politicians. It will certainly be a fun few years. Sharpen your knives, friends...

It will certainly be a fun few years.

I predict 6.  After that, the democrats will be dumped.  I doubt they will do anything of substance for the next 2 (except the impeachment).

I have to say, I heard a complete bald-face lie from Ms. Pelosi last nite.  Basically she tried to say the same old cliche of we want to see things united.   We want a partnership, not partisianship.  Really?  You wanted to unite government?  You had 6 years to do it and couldn't make yourself work with Republicans at all.  Instead, the Democrat party obstructed and delayed for as long as possible on everything.

They may ram some things through Congress now, but they really do face the same thing happening to them that happened for the last several years and they will have to work hard to overcome it.  The only really bad thing is that their friends in the mainstream media will of course work with them to help paint the Republicans as the real obstructionists and bad guys and that is something that the GOP members will have to work incredibly hard to stop so that their message really gets out.

What's hilarious (and telling) is how many Democrats are hoping she lied last night, and are counting on her promise not to impeach is a lie.

They know she is scum, but she is just their kind of scum.

Oh God, the nightmare will never end...to have an idiot like Pelosi running the House. Next we'll have Hillary in the White House (AGAIN). After losing Ehrlich as Governor of Maryland and now this...I have no further reason to maintain faith in the American people not to elect complete unethical morons into office. Might as well ex-patriate to Britain now so I can make fun of Americans without being one of them anymore.
