Newbie question about research / economy

On my home planet earth there is a sector, that promises a 300% research bonus. Of course I jumped on it and build a lab. It creates 8rp like any other lab - what about tzhe bonus - where cam I see the bonus and do I have to pay for bonus research points.

Thx for any help

If you look on the planets summary page you'll see the bonus. Also, if you select the tile you'll see it in the tile detail at the bottom middle of the screen. The number of RP's produced on the planet will reflect your actual total including bonus. Of course, the total RP's produced will be a percentage of your total possible dependent on where you have the research spending slider set. AFAIK you only pay for half of the bonus production.

Yes, planetary summary screen shows all planet bonuses as well as starbase bonuses. Also, once you've played a few games, you'll see the difference in your research points as compared to planets without the bonus.

Thx for that information. BTW, the bonuses of a research mining star base close to my home planet are not shown under starbase bonuses. Is this a bug or a feature? It would be great to have an overview over the currently applied multipliers in the UI. E.G. Research bonuses ganied via anomalies are not shown anywhere, but they seem to be applied (like the bonuses from research mining, which are only visible in the mining starbase). By setting the research slider to 100% I am always getting a few more tp's than expected.

Another thing, which I do not really understand, are the sliders to split the expennses into social, military and research. Lets assume I have a total capacity for research of 50 tp and a manufacturing capacity of 70mp. The utilization slider is at 100%. My income including trade and tourism is 180. So it should be possible to set the research slider to 100% to get all 70 tp's. But I can only get the 70tp, if I move both other sliders to 0. I can understand, that there is a link between the military and the social slider to define, how produced mp's are converted into military and social production. But the research slider should be completely independent from the other two, since tp and mp capacity are not related to each other. In other words - even when I have a positive net income it is not possible to run manufacturing AND research at full capacity.

Maybe there are some smart guys out there, who are able to explain the idea behind this to me...

Thanks for any help in advance

No. You get your research and production bonuses to planets from economy starbases, not resource starbases. If you built a base on a little purple, green, red, yellow, or light blue resource (research, economy, military, morale, or influence), those are CIVILIZATION bonuses that affect your whole empire. An economy starbase has a limited sphere of influence and will only affect planets within that sphere. These are the ones you will see from above. Do you see that bluish circle you get when you click on a constructor? If you plant a base, that is its sphere of influence. You can see civilization bonuses under the civilization screen in the STATS tab.

If you look at research as a third form of production, it makes more sense. To apply your maximum to research, you would have to drop the other two types of production to zero. I understand what you're saying but this is how the game is. Just treat it as another form of production where you make technology instead of ships or planetary improvements.

Are econ starbases and the like not sector limited then like in Galciv 1? In galciv 2 is an econ starbase's range of effect based upon a numerical radius?

/me runs to Galciv 2 wiki...

on the question about spending 100% on both your research and your social. now, don't quote me as im still a noob, but i think that the intention of the sliders is the % of your total allocations budget. thus, if you spend 100% on your research, that means your spending all of your budget on research. hope that answered yur question =D

most people (including me) probably cannot see the blue circle representing the spher of influence of constructors. You need 2 constructors when deploying a station. put two constructors where you think the station should go, then select both constructors - Yes! now you can see the blue circle.

They've fixed that in DA, there is a dotted line revolving around the influence of the constructor. A VERY welcome addition.
