DOOMED

Have you notist that if the first fue posts on a thread are
positive the thread is generally successful, but if they are
negative it tends to become a flame war.

I thought this was a product of the ultra strict polices of my
previous forum but to some degree its true hear to.

just a obsevation.

just a obsevation.

It's only "just an observation" when you are imbued with the powers of Super Obvious Guy.

Here's another observation: you're a disgrace to the Queen's English.

I knew if I waited long enough you would hit this one Wheeloffire!  And I just "walked" into the room not two minutes ago... you make me so proud, sniff, sniff.
And Lordpinko, I don't know what you were attempting to accomplish with your post but I do believe this was the intended result:
It's only "just an observation" when you are imbued with the powers of Super Obvious Guy.

Here's another observation: you're a disgrace to the Queen's English.

Which makes me wonder, are you just a glutton for punishment, a whiner, or both?

notist = noticed
fue = few
its = it's
hear = here
obsevation = observation

if you can translate than you can talk about my point

strangely Wheeloffire unwittingly proved it

And if you would take the time to spell correctly, it would not need to be translated.

How would the 'ultra strict policies' of any site be the cause of the tone of the thread being set in the first few posts?

It is usually the content of the original post that sets the tone.

That seems true in this thread as well.

There are a number of factors that can cause threads to head downhill and/or off topic, but I think the situation would be helped tremendously if some people would grow a bit thicker skin and others would stop poking them with pointy sticks.

lol or do as i did once and devoted a single forum to rants and flames. Jst makes sure it autodeletes posts after a month as to not waste a lot of server space

Why is this even a thread at all?!? Who freakin' cares??

Hello, if it's vagaly spelt like it's supposed to we get the ponit, I got the ponit. Give people a break guys sheesh, some people dont have the time to fully explian things . . . so they use convenent abbreveations

@wheely: why do you care about the queen's english?

@gammer nazi's (you know who you are): shut up, bloody hell your ruining the forums for everyone.
Reply #11 Top
Shadowmaster, that was an abomination. If you were deliberately making spelling errors to be sarcastic, don't.

It's idiots like you who make this forum a pain. So have two convenient abbreviations

STFU

and

GTFO.

I think everyone here needs to cool off. This thread has become a rather apt demonstration of the OP's complaint, and it's getting old rather quick.

From what I can tell Lordpinko has exhibited extremely thick skin. But the pointy stick part has certainly been true.

In the America thread, Lordpinko claimed to be dyslexic. I've seen no evidence that legitimately disputes his claim. To continually harp on his spelling if there's even the slightest possibility that this is true is obscene. What's next, pushing people in wheelchairs down a flight of stairs?

Here's a link to a site that describes how websites should be designed to accommodate the dyslexic. Since no website that I've ever seen really follows such advice, I can only imagine the difficulty Lordpinko faces every day.

www.dyslexia.com

If you want to beat on Lordpinko because of what he says then fine, but if you have the slightest amount of human compassion, please, cut out the criticism of how he says it.

look guys I try to put everything through word but that can’t always find what I mean and sometimes I forget to put it through word

The point I was going to make had this thread not gone sour was that unless a thread is blatantly pointless then give it a chance

I've been reading both threads. As new nobody in the forum, here's my unwanted opinion: I don't believe in bashing people, but I, like anyone who claims so, can become a hypocrate and do it if certain comments go against the grain you have in whatever touchy subject is up for bids. I believe it is my responsibility to try my best not be the aforementioned hypocrate. However, I also believe if you post responsibly, you will give some thought to the touchier subjects, such as politics, before you post them. Then you accept responsibility for any flack that ensues. If you don't mind it, great, whoopee for you. If do mind it and don't want to cause minor hysteria, your responsibility is not to post. I agree with those saying don't bash this guy to oblivion, let's be compassionate, but I cannot help but make the groundbreakingly underwhelming observation that he started it by introducing such a subject that was sure to bring myriad responses, including ardent opposition to his views. I understand he tried to paint it very neutral, but some folks have more disdain for fencesitting opions than they do for stalwart polar opposites.

I don't mind people having opposition to my views but how many of you have
replied to the subject

If you think i'm wrong then say what you think is right like half of Moosetek13s post
It is usually the content of the original post that sets the tone.

That seems true in this thread as well.

That’s what he thinks that’s what the threads about, not spelling

Although Lordpinko, it seems you can spell correctly when you want to.

Lordpinko, do you even have GalCiv2?
Do you play it?

Or, are you just here to place random comments and promote other websites?

Because from what I have seen, that is the case.
Reply #18 Top
like i said i put things through word, and i do have galciv2
you are basing your statement on one thread.

Moosetek and Wheeloffire, I like you both but the spelling hang up that you both share *is* becoming tiresome. I haven't made an explicit count but I've seen Wheel bash Lordpinko on spelling at least 20 times, you'd think by now you'd at least get tired of it.

Is it that you simply don't believe that there are people that struggle with dyslexia, or is it just Lordpinko you don't believe because sometimes his spelling is better than other times? I sometimes use Word to check my spelling as well. It's annoying when Word can't pick up the word or picks out the wrong word and you have to play with alternate misspellings before Word finally picks the correct one.

Proloton, your opinion is not unwanted and is overall a good one, but I didn't say don't bash him, I just said don't bash him for his spelling. Your post focused on the content of his post which in my mind is fair game to anyone. I'm sure Lordpinko agrees.

Lordpinko, I often don't agree with the content of your posts but I have to admire the way you've taken the constant abuse about something beyond your control without complaint. As you said in another thread, you're used to it. I'm sure you must be used to it, but that in itself is a sad statement on human nature.

Gee, I'm glad I checked the spelling on this post before I submitted it. Otherwise I would have had *two* spelling errors. God forbid.

Hmm, you guys should try Firefox 2.0. It has a built-in spellchecker which operates automatically on anything you type. No need to push any buttons or anything.

(Amusingly, its spellchecker just complained about "spellchecker" - but I'm not fixing it!)
Reply #21 Top
There's still lot's of errors no spell checker will pick up. Your vs. you're, they're vs. there vs. their, and on and on. Plus many times the spelling needs to be close enough to be able to pick the correct word. All that I'm saying is cut some slack to someone with a legitimate disability.
Reply #22 Top
I don't spell check and won't poke fun at people who spell incorrectly, unless it is a good natured jabbing. I notice I constantly leave entire words out, so I guess I'm no one to make fun of the subject. And since I am always too lazy to spellcheck, it's amazing how I forget the spelling of words like annihilate (sp?). I also never seemed to grasp that children's rhyme of "i before e except after, you know, whatever". I won't even begin on the number of times I have used hear for here, there for their, etc. And the worst part is, I'm not dyslexic.

Unfortunately it only works on normal form fields, so due to the javascriptiness of the forums here, it does not look at the reply box.

No no, I wasn't criticizing. It's just that both you and Lordpinko mentioned you paste things into Word to check spelling, so I figured I'd mention an easier approach.

It works in the reply box on these forums for me. It does a little dotted underline for misspelled words.
