Sorry Galciv2, YOUR NOT MY FAVORITE ANYMORE...

IT'S YOUR FAULT STARDOCK!!! YOU HAD TO GO OFFER SPACE RANGER 2 WITHOUT THAT STARFORCE CRAP! And so, I bought it through your online thingy. Now, I got hooked and more. The game has risen to the top of my list of all-time favorites. I'm so hooked, I didn't even go buy Neverwinters Night 2 cause I won't have time to play it.

Space Ranger 2 (SR2) is just amazing. I don't even know how to describe it without screwing it up. You just have to buy it and try it. The Demo doesn't even do it justice. Warning, the learning steep is high. I don't even think a 13 year old would understand the complexity of the game(or I just think anyone under 14 are idiots.) But since this is a Galciv2 forum, there should be a lot of intelligent people.

If you haven't played the Game. PLAY IT! But only if you want to get rid of your Galciv 2 addiction and any social life you have left. But if you've played it, then you know how great the game is.

Now, Imagine if Space Ranger 2 and Gal Civ 2 merged. You'll have a game that could win Game of the Year. And if you also port it for say, the Xbox 360 or XBOX (NOT SONY's CRAPSTATION) OMG!!!! I just busted a nut just thinking about it. Haha...

The Free-Form gameplay of SR2 and the Advance AI and customization of Gal Civ, that would make an AWESOME Experience. Will blow Will Wright's Spore away and still don't need to reload. Oh, and add to that the humor and "End of the World" desperation of the Fallout series, OMG!!! I busted a NUT again!!!

Oh, and if your in need of a Game Designer, I'd be happy to help. Not that I'm a game designer, but I am a Gamer with some background in System Analyst and I have a very creative and problem-solving oriented brain.

Oh joy, grammatical errors and xbox fanboyism.

Wheel's going to have a field day when he sees this.

Somehow, I don't think stardock will hire someone with absolutely no design background. Hey, I'm a gamer with a background in a systems analyst course. Naturally, I'm perfect for writing game of the year.

Petitioning for a *rolls eyes* emote!

I'm in the same boat. Got SR2 and my GalCiv play time has taken a bit of a hit, at least for a while

seconding the *rolls eye* emote...

I thought Livejournal and Silkroad "globals" were bad, but this is almost beyond reproach...*rolls eyes* again ^_^...

anyway, if you want to say good-bye, you could at least leave out the "busting a/the nut" approach, or, quite frankly, just leave the/this whole post out ...

no offense, but I would agree with the poster in saying that this is a forum for people of "like minds", so...(enter rest of sentence saying good-bye to you here (in a negative sense))

Yes. I am on cake-walk and probably don't have much say here, but please be cordial to us and don't use ALL CAPS, k?

just some net-iquette, yes?

anyway, I am out for now and, just as a last jab, I can't Wait for Dark Avatar .

I am on cake-walk

Hey - I lost my first game on cake-walk
I can't Wait for Dark Avatar

I can - I've got both GC2 and Space Rangers 2 to keep me going

SR2 is like an improved Elite with sub-games which make up some of the missions you can go on. Also you're supposed to liberate star systems which have fallen to the robotic Dominators ... and it's got some really good music.

the space ranger 2 has been running a couple of days on my system lately, yes, it is a very good game, and without protection make it even a better deal. However, compare both games make me feel like they both have uniquity behind them. And remember, we don't get the whole package of space ranger like if we get the cd version, you can take with starforce and have a space ranger include in the package, or you just want space ranger 2 with no protection, I guess it is win some take some scenario.

I still play but what kinda killed the game for me was the constant nerfing and removing of diplomacy (starbase, planet trading.) Full patch releaes that were completely broken for features we didn't need.

Heya

I bought SR2 boxed when it came out in NZ, only to find that the ANZ version was CD, not DVD, and didn't include SR1 as a result.

(I use a USB optical drive to play StarForce games)

Very disappointed in the lack of SR1, but very happy with the SR2 game

Mildly disappointed that I can't move the license from the boxed set into TGN though ;(

SR2 is really the exact same game as SR1 but with a lot good improvements. So you are not missing anything by not having SR1. I played SR1 for about 6 hours then return back to SR2 because I missed all those improvements.

I guess since the first SR never made it here in USA they decide to slap a copy in SR2.

One thing i have seen about the game that has made me laugh for long periods of time, is the horrible translation from whatever language it was originally in.

Is that to keep StarForce off your system? If so, does it work?? I would have thought it (SF) would have been installed on your hard drive anyway? I could well be wrong, of course, but personally I'd run a rootkit finding program just in case!

Demo available on Stardock! About a 1GB download I believe.

Just manually look for the rootkit, if you're playing a starforce infested game. However, if he's installed it on the USB, there's no reason it should really be on the hard drive.

And to manually look for it:

Control panel - system - hardware - device manager - select "show hidden devices" - under "non plug and play drivers" will be starforce. (If it's there).

Thanks Marcathonas for the pointer to the starfarce "virus". Since first hearing about starfarce, I have wondered if I had inadvertently bought or loaded up a game with it.

Thank God I am not infested with starfarce(and yes, I am intentionally making a farce of the starforce name).

@Marcathonas

Ah yes, the easy (if only I'd remembered it) way

Hey if you're playing games, that's great! That you're playing games you got from Stardock -- even better!

RTS? There's an RTS in there somewhere but, haviong played Dawn Of War, I thought it was mediocre and skipped those sections. You don't want to play Space Rangers 2? Fine. It doesn't need you. OTOH if you've a sense of humour then buy it.

Space Rangers 2 is my absolute favourite 2D space trading game of the last 12 months. Seriously. I hope being on Stardock brings it to as wide an audience as possible.

I bought the starforce infested DVD when it was released. Starforce actually came to my home and killed my wife and kids, kidnapped my dog Becky and scratched my car. My only regret is not seeing Becky again. Everything else I forgave because I'm a man and not a whining old woman. Your experience with Starforce may differ. You may also be a whining old woman.

Brad's still a *****, I see. (If you need more *'s send me a stamped self-addressed envelope.)

I came to the realization today that StarDock has turned me into a shill. I was promoting SR2 among some friends, and spawned a couple more sales.

I feel so dirty. But in a good way.

Cool, now you can play your games in peace.

No, it really isnt. That whole 3D robot thing you see on the screenies is actually a sub-game, and its pretty much all optional. It gets attention in the marketing as it shows the games diversity in picture form. If yiu dont want to play the RTS element then just skip it, plenty more to be doing instead.

SR2 can't be pigeonholed into any one genre as it dabbles in lots of them and no one genre badge I can think of really dominates. It probably isn't the best at any one of those genres but it blends them together and offers a huge variety of actibities over the course of a play session.

Best game ever? No, but its one big breath of fresh air and there is lots in it to love. It's a game thats more than the sum of its crazy little parts.

I know.. I feel so bad. I had a it reserved like 6 months ago, but even till now, I haven't gotten it.

What exactly is so super great about Space Rangers 2?

It's one big complex Space Opera (guess that's what you'd call it). It has Real-Time Strategy (although that part is okay, it's no Starcraft). It also has open ended gameplay (You can be a pirate, mercenary, merchant trader, or Bounty Hunter. And alot more.

I would have never bought this game cause of Starforce, but when I saw that Stardock put it on their network and took out Starforce, I had to buy it even just to show support for Stardock.

WOOT ANOTHER ONE FOR THE CAUSE!!!

SR2 rocks your socks off.
