It's a testament to their impotence that they can be so pissed off all the time and do so little about it. Imagine, if you will, if the majority in the western world felt motivated enough to start issuing fatwas and calling for the destruction of nations...

Iran's best-selling newspaper, Hamshahri, launched a competition in February to find the best cartoon about the Holocaust, in which 6 million Jews were killed by the Nazis. The contest was a retaliation for last year's publication of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad in Danish and other European newspapers that angered Muslims worldwide

This is truly an abominable act of such hatred. How can they take history and defile it so by denying it?

The second prize, worth $8,000, went jointly to French and Brazilian cartoonists. The third-placed competitor was an Iranian cartoonist. Shojai-Tabatabai did not reveal the French cartoonist's name. "You can call the French cartoonist 'Mr. X'. If I reveal his name, he may face imprisonment in France."

And so he should be imprisoned. A lot of French died as well.

The whole situation is just appalling.

Nah....I don't think anyone, anywhere, deserves prison for denying the Holocaust; that's way over the top. Besides, imprisoning someone for denying the Holocaust is just a step or two removed from burning buildings and rioting because someone published a few unpopular cartoons.

I think laws against Holocaust denial, simply put, are dumb, kneejerk reactions to the Continent's collective guilt complex. Everyone is entitled, and has a right to, their opinion, after all; no matter how myopic, ridiculous or idiotic.
To deny that right is a form of Thought Policing, in my opinion.

Zionism did begin before WWII. Jewish settlers started invading the Middle East (I say invading because the local inhabitants certainly didn't want them there) in the early 1900s. Of course the big rush of settlers only came after WWII, but the Zionists were causing trouble before then.

You're right though that the European Jews killed in Germany and elsewhere had little to do with Zionism - they were the Jews too poor or not 'patriotic' enough to move to Israel.

We shouldn't forget our own involvement in the Holocaust though. All the major western countries were offered Germany's Jews and refused the refugees. I seriously doubt government intelligence was so poor that the leaders didn't know what would happen to them if they were forced to stay in Germany.

They do. Governments don't pay them any attention though, and the ones who do argue for the destruction of the Middle East or the deaths of this or that civilisation don't tend to bother doing anything about it. We're too apathetic.

EDIT: As for denying the Holocaust, I really don't see the point. You can whitewash history all you like, but it won't make people like you or make you right. There's too much evidence of it happening to persuade anyone halfway intelligent, and where's the glory in convincing idiots?

Sadly, this is true. What ship was it? The ST. LOUIS? Full of European Jews.

It made port all up and down the east coast of America and other nations in the Western Hemisphere, but no one would have them. The ship returned to Europe, and most, if not all, presumably died in the camps.
Requests were made, by Jewish advocacy groups to both Roosevelt and Churchill, to bomb the Death Camps and put them out of commission. The missions, though considered, were for some reason never approved.

Every time the Iranians open their mouths about the holocaust 6 million dead Jews cry out in pain.

If people don't dignify that idiotic contest with any kind of response, it will all just be forgotten within a few months. The sole purpose for that contest was to instigate outrage.
