The Democrats will raise your taxes

I admit to being a bit late on this article.  I should have had it up a few days ago, and was just too busy working on saving every penny I could so I could get rich and avoid paying taxes to even have the time to write it.

I answered (left a comment on another blog) an article earlier that talked about what will happen if the Democrats get control of the Congress, but I'm gonna expand the thought a little here.  You could also consider this a belated answer to someone that made the bogus claim that the GOP will raise taxes.

Nothing is further from the truth on the tax front than claims that the GOP will raise taxes.  The GOP continues to be the party of tax-cutting, and that trend shows no signs of stopping.

Admittedly, the GOP has also been the party (in recent US history) that has let spending spiral to what some believe are unnecessary levels, and the GOP has been the party that hasn't shown the fiscal restraint that they used to show.  That is true, but at the same time those facts ignore the truth in the idea that our government continues to have needs, and emergencies and disasters that happened, and also the continued needs of our population in general.

Along the way though, as I've noted in prior articles, the GOP and the so-called Bush tax-cuts have had our economy on a roll.  We continue to bring in more revenue than expected, and we are narrowing the budget deficits without having raised taxes, and in fact, BECAUSE we had cut taxes, rather than raising them.

The Bush tax-cuts, along with a bit more fiscal restraint, have put more people to work, and have put more revenue into the government's hands than at any time in history.  The revenue is there for our needs, assuming we tighten the purse strings a bit and keep the budget levels where they have been rather than just blindly increasing the spending levels because of cost of living increases or other inflationary increases.

Anyway, as some folks (myself included, along with Dr. Guy, drmiler, and others) have said the one thing that is certain is that Democrats will raise your taxes.  They'll do it by making sure that the Bush tax-cuts all sunset, and possibly by eliminating some of the cuts through votes in Congress.  If they can override the inevitable Bush veto, they'll definitely do it by voting in Congress, but if not they'll simply wait for the laws to sunset, then they'll watch the revenues come pouring in from taxes that whack the middle class upside the head and in the wallet and pocketbook.

The Democrats have all but said they will raise taxes.  Now some of them (like Jim Webb, candidate for the U.S. Senate in Virginia, like Charlie Rangel in Congress) are trying to distance themselves from some of those statements, but people need to be smart enough to see through those bald-faced lies and know that the one guarantee they can count on and find evidence on at the bank is that the Democrats will raise taxes.  They'll call them "revenues", rather than taxes, and they'll find a way of raising revenues that gets the most bang for the buck, and in doing so, they'll hit the middle-class and virtually all tax-payers because they'll figure out again that they can't get enough from the people they deem wealthy, and they'll have to keep searching for every single dollar they can find and can get because, as in life, the low hanging fruit is the easiest to get and Congress is lazy (and well paid to be that way really) and won't touch the upper class because of loopholes and shelters that will continue to exist to cover every special interest under the sun.

Yup, the Democrats will be raising taxes.  It's only a matter of time.

Again, apologies for this article being a bit late, and extra apologies if this article covers materials that have been covered by others here at JU.

They WILL if they CAN. But who says they can?

The economy is on somewhat of a roll, but there's no proof that it's due to the tax cuts. Correlation is not causation and there really isn't a strong correlation anyway. Using the theory that tax cuts fuel the economy, in the 90s, taxes were raised and what followed was huge economic expansion. Our current economy is based on huge debt and that's not healthy.

People are being put to work earning less and with fewer benefits.

The census dept clearly shows that AFTER inflation Average weekly wages are DOWN.

The wealthy are the people that benefit from the record high stock market not the poor and middle income Americans.

The debt will mandate large increases in the interest and will REQUIRE tax increases.

The cost of the Iraq war will not end when we bring the troops home. We have a huge liability for the injured and we will need to replace almost ALL the equipment in the Army, Marines, Army National Guard and Army Reserve. Finally is the impact of the Baby Boomers retirement.

There are BIG tax increases coming and the GOP has made them BIGGER!

Eventually people will see the pattern, I hope.

You have prosperity, and in their comfort people politically move based upon idealism and whim. Idealists take over, whether Dem or Republican, and slowly the prosperity is leeched away. Most of the ill effects take years to see, so when the economy is tanking halfway through the next president's first term they conveniently blame it on him.

That's what we had with Bush. Bush hadn't been in any time at all and every little downswing was somehow his fault. I've seen people blame Bush for the 2001 budget, totally ignorant of the fact that Bush wasn't in office in 2000 to create it.

So if the Dems take over, they'll win both ways. People have already been convinced that we are in some sort of a depression even though the economy is in great shape. If the Dems screw everything up they'll just point to the imaginary 'depression', and if they continue to reap the reward of Bush's investment in capitalism, they, like Clinton did, will take credit for something that happened in spite of them.

What neither Clinton nor Bush 41 did is burden the next president with the higher DEBT that Bush 43 will leave future Presidents and the tax payers of this country!

They WILL if they CAN. But who says they can?

If they control one house, they can.  By simply doing nothing.

It use to be that we called the democrats the party of tax and spend, and indeed they still are.  But over the last 6 years, the republicans have been the party of taxcuts and spend.  The end result is the same as the democrats, after raising taxes, just spend faster.  But at least with the republicans, our taxes go up when our incomes do, and not when our incomes dont.

You also get to pay the higher interest on the increased National debt. WHO do you think will end up paying hundreds of Billions more each year in interest?

"You'll" be helping to pay it!

Bush and Reagen have dumped $9 trillion in debt on our country that will buden this country for many years to come. The Democrats have NEVER done anything like that.

No, the Democrats are just responsible for Welfare, Social Security and a host of other "social programs" that will be crippling the economy and over-burdening all tax-payers for years to come.

And the Democrats were also in control of the Congress during the 1970's during the times of outrageous interest rates that were matched with ridiculously high inflation rates.

You keep claiming to be a moderate Republican, yet you continue to show your true colors and praise the Democrats or fail to slam them for their incompetencies along the way.  Come on out with it.  Admit it.  You're a perfect match for the Democrat party's mascot anyway, so why don't you come out with the fact that you're a Democrat.  Heck, Mark Foley is out of the closet.  Grey's Anatomy star T R Knight is out of the closet.  Lance Bass is out of the closet.  How about you Gene?

If this is what you believe, why exactly are a you a Republican then? How is it that you believe that Republicans have done nothing but screw this country up yet somehow you claim to be one. That kinda puts you on the same team as those you claim are the idiots, us. You're so stupid you don't even know how to debate. Insult the same people you claim to vote for, that is by far the dumbest argument I have ever heard. You're a closet Democrat and won't admit it, some soldier you are. Coward.

LOL, didn't even notice you wrote this when I wrote the above post. Great minds think alike.

Democrats will raise taxes because they have to.

They are now tasked with re-discovering fire, the wheel, and Archimedian screw, because Republicans have reduced this national economy to the Stone Age.

I do want to reply to Charles C. Calling Republicans idiots are not just exclusive to Democrats and smaller parties. COL Gene may be a Republican, but he knows mental retardation when he sees it. If for some unfathomable reason I voted for Republicans in the past, and called myself one, I'd still be right there to call it as it is, George Bush and his pack of cronies can't tell the difference between a red tricycle from a pine tree.

No he doesn't! If he did he'd be unable to look in the mirror everyday!
