homeland security claims threat is not credible

The headline pretty much says it all. It may be much ado about nothing, But the department of homeland security has notified the NFL and the individual teams that there is a threat to explode 7 "dirty bombs" at games this weekend or "soon."

The 7 cities being targeted are New York, Miami, Atlanta Cleveland, Seattle, Oakland and Houston.

Publicly, homeland security is calling the threat "not credible." Yet they have been prepping the cities and having them increase security.

Interesting that these come out now. Is it a fake, is it real or is it just more "election season politics?" We shall see I guess.

UPDATE:*** turns out, it was a fake, orchestrated by some kid in washington state.

You can tell it is a fake. They mention Oakland. Why bomb an empty stadium?

It does remind me of the situation in Oklahoma City last year.  Stadium Security turned a man away from a few gates because he didn't have a ticket.  He did, however, have a bookbag.  The police later arrested him while he sat at a bus stop... it was full of explosives.

This never made more than a quick blurb on local news, then was forgotten... or just deemed not "newsworthy" by the incompetent fools of the press...

Either way, it makes you wonder doesn't it.

i'm mortified by your backhanded suggestion something as serious as a barely credible threat of a possible terrorist attack on multiple nfl temples scheduled for 'soon' might possibly be used to gain political leverage.

if that were the case, why hasn't homeland security elevated threat levels all along rather than just this one since about this time in 2004?

If they notify, it's politics.
If not and something happens - "What did they know & when did they know it?"

wow,,,i must admit i know nothing of this story,,,any chance you could do an article on this ted? i'm not askin cause i wanna debate ya about it or anything cynical...i'm really curious and you seem to be in the know. i'd love to see some sourced work on this and find out why everyone else missed it. you could be on to something there!

maybe next week we'll have a nascar threat...or is their season over?,,,i gotta admit i don't follow events that almost exclusively involve guys making left turns over and over again.
