Forum edits.

I would like to know why it is so hard to edit one's posts and replies? At most other forums, I can edit my reply years after it was made. Why is that not the same here? What is the logical reasoning?

Once someone posts a response after yours, they may very well be responding to something that you posted, perhaps even quoting your post. It could make someone's response seem nonsensical were you to later go in edit or delete your post.

Forum edit's are allowed as long as no one has posted after you. I think this is a good policy. I often go back and edit my posts, usually for spelling or grammer, but you have to be quick. The finality of hitting the "Post Comment" button is a good thing. People should re-read what they wrote to ensure that they're saying what they mean. Some of the smartest things I've done on this forum, is to re-read my posts and in some cases delete them without submission. This can sometimes help avoid serious foot-in-mouth disease.

Yes, yes, yes. This is a very good policy, one which I believe I shall attempt to employ more often!

I do the same thing. So excuse my spelling if I am unable to edit my posts in time.

Good sentiment. Too bad the attempt only lasted a few hours.

Well I did say I would "attempt" to employ it, but sometimes trying something new can be challenging!!

I didn't mean to "tattle" on you and Jasamcarl to Cari. But speaking someones name can indeed cause them to appear.

I did look back through the posts and it really wasn't you that started the name calling. There was nothing in your first post that was inflammatory or insulting. It was Ignuss response that first used the word stupid and was unwarranted.

Even your response to the insult by Ignuss didn't resort to name calling, so far so good. That's when Jasamcarl chimed in with an immediate personal attack with no other redeeming content. Ignuss followed with some argument to your point but at least didn't continue the name calling. That's when I jumped in and tried to calm things down a bit.

It wasn't until your third post after two personal attacks that you sunk to their level, but at that point you jumped right in with both feet. From there on out it was he said/she said and who was right and who was wrong quickly began to not matter.

If I were to assign blame I would put far more of it onto Jasamcarl than I would on you, but in the end it just doesn't matter. It does take two to tango and you can always end it by walking away and letting the other person have the last word, even if he is a cretin. It's hard to be the better man but you could have let him babble on thinking he'd "won", but any intelligent person would understand what had happened. You come off better by making a reasonable argument and then when it becomes clear that the other person isn't capable of rational argument, just walking away.

You didn't, Cari was watching the thread anyway, and after jasma's third or fourth trolling reply she decided to cause it to stop, lest another full blown flamewar kicked off.

Personally I respect your moderate standpoint mumblefratz, but I myself would place all the blame on Jasmacarl. He was trolling to provoke a flamewar, nothing else whatsoever. If you can't at least refute someone's argument, you don't post.

Not sure what you mean there Mumblefratz, I didn't realize that I was in "trouble" for anything. No harm no foul as I always say. Besides, I elected you for Prez so you could do no wrong in my eyes! I just have to learn to pick and choose, must just come from the old days of being on the debate team (now imagine a jean jacket wearing long hair sitting with a bunch of "respectable" folk debating the pro's and con's of industrialization in the twentieth century and business ethics in the era of Reaganomics).
PS: Went back and looked at the thread. Didn't bother reading it after my last interaction with my buddy! And I even got to use the edit feature Mumblefratz!
