Combat

Im wondering how rich the tactical combat will be like. Will it be like offensive/defensive power only or will there be special modules like in MOO2 with shield piercing weapons, ship raiding which takes out enemy modules and black hole generators which makes a ship unable to act or be act upon?

Also will there be formations and will that impact the outcome of the battle?

Crew experience?

etc

Thanks

Crew experience?

yup

*prays* but no definate answer (although we do know that location matters)

this sort of thing in an RTS is never a definate, sometimes you get it, sometimes you just get a claim that formations matter (and all that matters is numbers)
shield piercing weapons

good question...
black hole generators which makes a ship unable to act or be act upon?

probably not... but who knows?
ship raiding which takes out enemy modules

as in actually getting *on* a ship?

nope.

If you head to the main site and go to the races part, try the ships list. It tells a little bit about some of their abilities.

Since the beta comes out in ~12-14 weeks...
More than 14 blank buildings/ships...

1 per week? Please

one per week would be shiny, but not all should be revealed beforehand of course. That would take away the surprise.

I sure hope that they dont plan on including only that small amount of ships alcari...

however if they do, thats fine I guess... just not as interesting...

yeah, more ships are always good. I was just naturally assuming the number of empty slots = number of ships, which need not be true.

still...

at least 15-20 ships per race would be nice.
but granting concessions for the scope of the game, I wouldnt be surprised if we only had 10-12, and thats not going to stop me from buying the game in the least.

13 ships per race isn't that bad. And there will be mods and (hopefully!) an xpack.

meh, I'm not so much a fan of xpacks as I am of brand new games

xpacks expand on an already working engine (which is fine, especially in this case) whereas new games grant the flexability of a new engine
