Ubisoft announced late yesterday that developer Blue Byte will once again head up the development of the latest Settlers title, Settlers VI with hopes of having the title out in 2007.

Blue Byte is already hard at work on a re-make to an earlier title in the franchise The Settlers II: The Next Generation, which will mark the 10th anniversary of the PC strategy classic.

Ubisoft expects big things from Blue Byte, claiming that the latest entry will be "the best The Settlers game yet," with "a perfect mix of favorite elements alongside new developments," and "the best graphics seen in a strategy game to date."

Gameplay information has been slow to leak-out since Ubisoft and Blue Byte seem to be focusing on the completion and marketing of the remake at the moment. What is known is that the title will once again be focused on creating a city and watching the inhabitants go about their business. A single-player campaign is to be included and Ubisoft has stated that they will release more in-depth gameplay information next year.

Hopefully, the team that has created seven Settlers titles including The Settlers, The Settlers 2, The Settlers 3, The Settlers III: Quest of the Amazons, The Settlers: Fourth Edition, The Settlers: Heritage of Kings will be able to live up to Ubisoft's expectations.

I remember when Blue Byte was its own publisher/developer. Ah the good ol' days...
