Death to Reality TV

and the People Who Come Up with the Crap.

Ok, everyone knows about these "reality" shows and the stupid stuff people do for money, fame, and "love". The thing is they are no more reality than any sitcom. Always the same stuff drama, drama, drama, (dry humor), and drama. I mean it may be entertaining for a year or two, but come on...when will it stop? I mean we're on Survivior 1 million and there was Big Brother 5,000 and on and on. It's like watching the grass grow, different day, slightly new grass, same concept. Here are a few specifics:

Survivor-Ok, come on, really. Get put on an island, savannah, desert and survive alone with camera crews and a host. They've done it at least 7 times(I lost count) and it's getting insane. Then they always have someone screwed up on there, someone who can't take the pressure, a person that throws himself in the fire, and a naked guy...oh boy! Then they always have to eat some kind of grub, bug, and other strange thing. What a premise for a show. Mabye once or twice but not a decade.

Big Brother-King of the drama series, yes? Put a whole bunch of people that probably won't agree with each other and film them yelling at each other 24/7. Hah, all they had to do is stick a camera in any mildly disfunctional family and there ya go. I'm not wasteing a lot of time with this one.

Bachelor, Bachelorette, Joe Millionaire, ect.-First of all this is a bunch of bull $#!&. Leave it to Fox to try and set up "true love" and let people be lied to and manipulated and have their emotions toyed with(fake or otherwise). First the Bachelor and Bachelorette have to choose a spouse out of about 20 or 30 or 100 for all I know for love. Yeah, like that's going to happen. The Bachelor chooses the hottest one(being a guy I would know) and the Bachelorette choosing the most rich and handsome guy in that order. Also, Joe Millionaire is based on the same thing except they throw in a huge lie and have the pain and sorrow of that crap. By the way most of the couples married on the show don't last at all. Out of 6 mabye 1 or 2 are left intact. Now, there's the ones with the ugly, average people and midgets...whoa. What production genius pulled this out of the hat. Let's just tick people off with this load of crap about "surprising" twists and turns.

Mad House and Real World-The basics of these shows is put a bunch of freaks and/or crazy disagreeable people in the same house and see who comes out alive. That is close to cruel and unusuable punishment for them and the audience. Not much to say because there's not much too it.

Fear Factor and such-Ok, these shows aren't that bad. But, there's still the stupid crap people say when they're on the show. Like acting surprised when some nasty stuff is going to be eaten. You've SEEN the show don't freak out. Don't like stupid stunts and nasty food, DON'T SIGN UP.

In, conclusion I find that some money grubbing executives have exhausted any ideas that they or the company has thought of and should bring back older better shows such as X-files, Greg the Bunny(sick but funny), Baby Bob(It's cute) and the ones they only give a season to mature ripen and make a million. But so is the fate of any bit of decent TV that could be aired on local cable. I pity anyone that does not have satellite or good cable. God be with you as you suffer intolerably at these monotonous shows.

That's my view, don't like...tough!

I am one of the poor souls stuck watching that crap. Waiting for cable to be installed....*sigh. You know what I do? Watch a movie! I pop one in and bypass that crap!!
I agree, I don't know what people see in it, at all. My most hated has to be Bachelor/Bachlorette how many rich people do they have to set up before it becomes redundant? Like they don't have enough of a choice already!! LOL
Next runner up...definitely Fear factor. Like you said, don't whine you signed up for it!!
What is so entertaining about any of it?

Call me Crazy ;)

I like reality TV. Not all but I love Amazing Race - it's one of my favorite shows but I have to wait until summer to watch AR5. I'm not tired of it yet. But what is interesting about it is seeing the people in different locations and cultures and also to see the personalities and competitive human nature come out. I liked all the PBS reality shows - 1900 house, frontier house etc. It makes me realize how soft we are now and how lucky. Really not all reality TV is crap. You just have to be discerning.

Zoo~ You have my whole agreement. Dude, I liked the first survivor, and then the idea died. The bachelor and bachelorette stuff sucks bad. Let's see, marry some hottie so none of the guys back home make fun of you. Oh wait... you were on reality t.v. not much you can do then, huh? Or, you could marry the rich old guy and take all of his money. Yeah, that's the ticket! Then everyone in America hates you... But it would be worth it, wouldn't it? *cough* no way in heck *cough*

Call me Crazy

Crazy Lady~ I can do that with no hesitation but if you meant to call you that because of what you just said, I'm gonna have to say I can't.

I'm happy to report that I don't watch any of that shit. I have to admit that I did watch 3 episodes of Joe Millionaire, and i'm very ashamed...

I agree... Reality T.V. is a stupid waste

but then, isn't blogging a form of "reality viewing"?

isn't blogging a form of "reality viewing"?

I don't think it is if you aren't being yourself. Would you agree?

but most of us ARE being ourselves... so again, isn't blogging a form of 'reality viewing'?

You do realize I'm just arguing to argue. I realize I am wrong, for the most part, and I'm fine with that because I can say what I want to say. Go reality writting!

Oh yeah! Enough already!

How many years are we gonna have to put up with the re-runs too?

Ugh! Re-runs! Nooooooo!
Make it stop! Just for the sake of arguement.....
Blogging is a bit different, I don't read blogs to "watch" drama unfold! That IS what reality TV is about right?? .......It's a glorified Soap Opera...w/o the Duh duh duhhhhs.....and the far off dramatic stare..You know the one!

Capt. Corn > Just call me Crazy..... for NO reason at all!

Ok i'll have to admit that I like some of the shows that you don't. My favorite outta the ones you put down happens to be Fear Factor. I love that show to death. It's always funny to watch the so called "girly" girls, get grossed out by all the animal body parts that they have to eat. In fact I wouldn't mind going on the show. I'd eat whatever the put out infront of me. Guess you can say I have a pretty strong stomach, if that's what you wanna call it. As for survivor........well I used to be into that show alot. But now it's kinda getting lame. Real World is actually a pretty good show sometimes. Other times the people act all insane. As for all the other shows you mentioned, those are the ones i really don't care for. I'm mean oh lets go get on a show with a bunch of lies from men. If you guys haven't read my article entitled "The Man of My Dreams" then maybe you should read it and find out what i mean. Have any of you every watched Most Extreme Elimination Challenge or otherwise known as MXC??? It's on Spike TV. It's a really funny show. It's about Chinese people that do stupid things to earn point for there team. It's like a game show i guess but really funny. I also like to watch shows such as Monster House and Myth Busters which are both on the Discovery Channle. You should check them out sometime. Untill next time............

It's the old argument quantity versus quality.  Once they see something is successful the media will exploit making dozens of clones which automatically drops the quality of the shows.  I like the first real world because it was original but now after a thousand episodes it lost what made it good it's originality...
