Wonderfalls

By now you've all probably heard that Wonderfalls was cancelled by Fox.
And I'm sure you're as shocked and appalled as I am.
For those of you who don't know, Wonderfalls is a fantastic show where the main character, Jaye Tyler, is a disaffected 24-year old who works in a gift shop at Niagara Falls. She receives cryptic messages from stuffed animals, tchochkes and lawn ornaments telling her to do things like "Get her words out", "Find a penny, pick it up" and "Get off your ass". Needless to say, it is hilarious and features clever writing, great characters, wonderful acting and a witty dialogue that really engages you.
So of course Fox was going to cancel it.
I remember Fox as the network which gave new shows a chance. There are a stable full of shows (X-Files, Simpsons, Malcolm in the Middle) that really didn't start all that strongly and which got the chance on Fox to develop and shine.
But Fox wants to go for the quick buck now. Maybe the quick conservative buck. Dross like American Idol, The Swan, reality show after reality show after exploitive premise (can anyone say dwarf dating show?) It's just not right. I'm appalled to admit that Rupert Murdoch is (at least by birth) Australian. He daren't show his face any more!
The only chances we have now are: get the rest of the episodes out on DVD, or get another network to pick it up. I think the one network that would be great for this show is the WB. Wonderfalls would sit well alongside Gilmore Girls, Everwood, and Smallville. It WOULD have sat well alongside Angel, but what are you going to do?

Oh, and stop watching Fox, OK? Except for Arrested Development. That show's cool too.
