Ensign is the FIRST rank, same as a PRIVATE. It is a navy term like Seaman.

I don't do metaverse, but I think I read on these forums that the rank is based on how many games you submit, the more games the higher the rank....

Funny, but post #2 in your original thread pointed you to the answer.

A case of not seeing the forest for the trees, perhaps.

Well, to be fair to the King, that link lead to a list of medals with no explain of what any of them mean. So you can guess I suppose. Is there any where that all the medals are defined ?

They are rankings, and Ensign is the first, and lowest of the ranks.

Why do they have to be individually defined when they are relative to each other, and clearly laid out in the legend?

No, you're right. They are laid out as to the order, but nothing telling how each is achieved. The Achievement medals are probably the most confusing of the bunch.

King... the question was answered. I gave the definition, someone else pointed out it's the first naval rank. So how was that not answering it?

I'm just wondering what it repesents (what you have to do to get it).

I tried a forum search, but I was not able to confirm what I think... that the medal for Officer Rank depends on HOW MANY games you submit to Metaverse, win or lose. So, if this correct, then HOW many games =ensign, =LT, =Capt, etc, etc ...???
Further searches of the forums reveal only that the Officer rank MAY depend on games WON. It is not clear HOW many games that would be in either case ....

Ranking is over-rated. It's just an ego-masturbation for those who likes to feel good about themselves. Just play the game and enjoy. Don't worry about what your medals or stat says about you.

Hey, I resemble that remark

Ensigns are officers, privates are not. I suspect the poster understands that, but wanted to take the silly quibble opportunity to mention that one thing I hope to see in the long-term evolution of this game (and the whole 4-5X genre) is an increased presence of "the people," be they the teeming masses or simply the enlisted folks who scrub the bulkheads, etc.

Putting aside that aside, Achillus might have the "best" answer here, given the continued lack of specs for the Metaverse hierarchy. (The shudder quotes are b/c I appreciate the sentiment but probably would not have welded it together with a slap at the Metaverse folks.)

an ensign may be captian of a pt boat where as an admiral would be in charge of a battleship or carrier and a fleet admiral abviosly would be in charge of a fleet such as a carrier fleet or a battleship fleet so basically a carrier in the us navy should have two admirals on it when out at sea

one in charge of the carrier and one in charge of the fleet

how ever in the battle of midway we had a commander in charge of two carriers

go figuare

Well, it's certainly good to have a rank of any sort. Or a medal of any sort. I wish I had one of either. Guess I'll go look on Ebay and see if I can buy one.

That's probably the only way I'll ever get it.

Good luck to you, Shadowmaster. And good luck with your galactic career.

I have read some more Metaverse forum posts and it seems that if you "just won my FIRST meta game" that you gain the Lieutenant rank ? So this is the King's question, how do you get the Ensign rank ??? Hey if you do NOT know, then just say that... but all the post info on this thread (and the first one on this topic) have dodged the answer. I just noticed on post#6 on this thread that Marc is an Ensign ... so Marc did you win or lose at Tough level ?

I did a quick check of characters in the metaverse and it seems that rank is simply based on the number of games posted. Whether the game was won or lost doesn't seem to matter, nor does the difficulty level. BTW anyone that was interested in this could have easily done this for themselves.

Rank (Games Submitted)

Ensign (1)
2nd Lieutenant (2)
Lieutanant (3 to 6)
Commander (7 to 9)
Captain (10 to 24)
Fleet Captain (25 to 34)
Commodore (35 to 39)
Rear Admiral (40 to 49)
Vice Admiral (50 to 111)

111 games was the most posted in the first 50 pages of the MV which is as far as I went. What you need for Admiral or Fleet Admiral must be higher than that.

Mucho Thanks to Mumblefratz !!!!! This double threaded dreaded post is FINALLY answered. To recap: Ensign is the LOWEST OFFICER rank in the Metaverse, you achieve it by submitting ONE game (win or lose).

I remember reading a thread where Kryo was asked this very question. He said that the quantity of posts didn't matter, it's the quality of posts that count. Posts that contribute to the overall quality of the forum or that provide useful help, particularily to newcomers, were definitely factors. He also implied that people with high level access (Avatar, Senator, Ambassador?) proposed individuals for promotion but needed final approval from Frogboy (not totally sure about this point but he did say that anyone who had ever aggravated Frogboy was very unlikely to be promoted).

proposed individuals for promotion but needed final approval from Frogboy

Kryo, Cari and I believe most of the other GC2 Stardockians can promote who they like without verifying with Brad. But anyone who has ever irritated Brad will never, ever get a promotion. The same also applies to people who have irritated Cari or irritated Kryo.

*whistles nonchantly*

Methinks thou hast delved into said realm with the previous post. Well done brother!

YES, Mumblefratz for Veteran !!!!!! Hey, his screen picture alone presents a sense of calm authority, not to mention his intelligent and always reasonable views and comments.
