Shortest Gigantic, Everything Abundant, 9 Incredible AI, Military Conquest?

I recently posted my 2nd Metaverse game with a score of 99500. It was a v1.2 game, 9 Incredible AI opponents and two minors, gigantic map, everything abundant, tight clusters (283 planets), and very fast research. The game ended with my empire having 2.6T people on Dec. 15, 2227, so it got rounded down to 2 yrs. I wonder what my score would have been if I extended my game another year to Dec. 2228 and to grow my population. Is it possible to resubmit a Metaverse game (i.e., overwrite it)?

Has anyone else completed a similar Metaverse game before the end of 2227?

Metaverse allows you to resubmit once, so play your game out and see if it scores better. If you like it, you can post it again and the game will update. Be sure before you post it again because you can only update one time.

I'm pretty amazed when people can finish a gigantic, abundant game in that short of a time. I'm still trying to figure out how to get my 1.3 games to run under 10 years. I had my 1.2 games down to 7 or 8.

I completed a gigantic game in just 1 yr but the score was pants, 50,000.

My problem is like Mascrinthus, I win very quick, too quick.

I miss out on alot of events like pirates, all pq 0 worlds becoming pq 10 or whatever. I dislike eeking a game out, especially as I have limited playing time.

Wow, that's a tremendous game & score, congratulations.

I didn't know you could resubmit a metaverse game even once, thanks CraigHB!

I find it kind of boring to keep a game going longer to raise my metaverse score. On my last game, I took a Tech victory rather than spending a lot of time (and hundreds of mouse clicks) taking our three more civilizations that did not stand a chance against me. My instincts tell me that "shorter game should mean higher score," but it does not seem that this is entirely how it works ... there seems to be some elusive "sweet spot" that involves other factors. I'll be interested to learn what you discover.

Mascrinthus,

My now typical huge 1.2 game everything abundant has about ~280 planets. I tend to finish it between Nov 2227 and March 2228 (December and January are typical). If you are willing to play it out a bit more you will get a lot more points for it. Based upon what I have seen, if you play it out, you will get at least 150K, possibly 200K. It gets very boring though....I have never played one all the way out to where my score peaked before giving up and just submitting the thing.

BTW It’s good to see another active overmind player posting.

Can I resubmit it to a new character? My first Metaverse victory level Painful, score 61250, is pulling down my game difficulty average and will bring down my MV score if I repost with 150-200K.

Chosing very fast research helps speed up the pace of the game. Even this "short" game took me over two months to play out in real time because I have very limited playing time and there was lots of activity (micro-management and tech trading) in every turn! You need to be agressive and it helps to be lucky (someone surrending to you so that you don't have to invade all their planets).

In 2227 there was me with the left half of the galaxy and the rest split among the Altarians (in the top right), Arceans (in the middle right), and Drengins (bottom right). I took out the Drengin first, taking all their planets except for 2 low PQ planets in the bottom right and 7 former Yor planets in the middle far right. I made peace with them in exchange for 2 of the former Yor worlds. I did not expect to take out the Altarians and Arceans before the end of 2227; after crushing them I was planing to grow my population until Dec. 2228 and then take out the last few Drengin planets. However, the Altarians quickly surrendered to me, followed by the Arceans in Nov. 2227. I used my large cash surplus to purchase 7 transports and took out the Drengin planets on Dec. 15, 2228. My transports had speed 40 but thanks to an event in 2227, all ships got a speed bonus of 50% giving my transports speed 60, allowing them to reach those distant Drengin planets quickly!

Your refering to your submission on July 17, 2006 (v1.2, Gigiantic, 1yr, Suicidal, Military Conquest, Score: 49250).
Games completed anywhere from Jan. 1, 2226 to Dec. 22, 2226 will get rounded down to 1yr; do you recall when this game completed?
How many planets were in the galaxy? What was your research speed? How many AI opponents, where all the AI set to Incredible (in the 1.3 change log it was reported even in a Suicidal game you could have 1 AI Incredible and the rest set to Fool)?

BTW It’s good to see another active overmind player posting.

My Metaverse game ranking is #48 but on the forums I'm ranked #29 for top authors and ranked #13 for top commenters! They need to add some forum metals!

Races starting very close together on the map. All started clustered on the west part, with the rest empty. Lucky or unlucky depending on yr point of view. I viewed it as a opportunity for a quick kill...

No, since the game is linked to a character when you begin it.

but on the forums I'm ranked #29 for top authors and ranked #13 for top commenters! They need to add some forum metals!

There are forum medals for the top 3 in each category, but they're bugged so the top 3 authors get both author and commenter medals (and the web team has higher priorities...). Really chafes me since I'm supposed to have the #1 commenter medal (I have almost double the posts of anyone below the top 3).

Only the top 3! Brad/Frogboy is the #1 author and #3 commenter, you are the #1 commenter, so you have 3 of the 6 medals held by Stardock! They have a medal for the top 25 and former top 25, for the game rankings! Doing the same for the forums would give the fans a chance to get a medal.

This epic game rocketed me into the top 25!

This was a gigantic, everything abundant, very fast research, suicide game against 9 opponents. By May 2228 I had 474 out of 475 planets but I left the Altarians with one planet to extend the game. This allowed me to complete my queued up projects, build up my economy (e.g., max out my population), and build up my military. On Aug. 8, 2228 they succumbed to my influence so I reloaded the game to extend it further. An alien influence backlash event kept them from flipping again until I finally ended the game on Aug. 1, 2229. At game end I had 10.560 trillion tax payers and a fleet of 3963 dreadnoughts(huge hull) plus 36 destroyers(medium hull), costing me 135354 BC to maintain but still leaving me with a surplus of 107266 BC! If I was only interested in my maximizing my final score, upon completion of the tech tree, I would have built Industrial Sectors or Stock Exchanges over my NLCs but instead I continued to build NLCs on research bonus tiles, planets with rings, and my Tech Capital because my aim was to max out my empire's potential output. If I set research spending to 100%, my Tech Capital was outputting 6496, without any economic starbases!

Here are some game statistic:
Date Society Technology Economy Military Overall Ships
2228/08/08 27806 12433 43166 12648 138000 ~700 Huge + 36 Medium
2228/12/15 34416 12433 56012 21719 163000 1808 Huge + 36 Medium
2228/12/22 34824 12433 56789 22340 164500 1884 Huge + 36 Medium
2229/01/01 35233 12433 57567 22969 166000 1968 Huge + 36 Medium
2229/08/01 47025 12433 78933 22969 205000 3963 Huge + 36 Medium

I'm tried of these epic games taking months to complete and I'm tired of extending games to raise my metaverse score, plus near game end this game was using ~1000MB of RAM and my system only has 512MB! I see DA 1.6 Beta 2 is out. For now on, I'm going to just play non-metaverse games on small/medium maps. This way I will be able to complete games much faster and try out the various DA super abilities, plus I'll be free to try out the many mods as well.

Hm... well I like to take my time. Killing the other races too early kind of ruins the flow of galactic developement that make the perfect stories.

In a current medium game I declared war on the Terran when they had no millitary and was able to take 4 planets in one turn. Then the entire galaxy pretty much went to war, and there are still quite a few planets uncolonized and my spy reports show huge underdevelpment.

But, I aplaud you, that is very impressive.

Although this last game ended in 2229/08/01, it was anything but short as I started it in late 2006! In any game once you are stronger than the remaining players combined it is no longer interesting. Once I had 474 of the 475 planets and was just spending each turn spending my huge cash surplus to buy planetary improvements and later when my planets were all developed, ships, the game was a pain especially since my computer was swapping virtual memory like crazy! In my previous game I was able to take out the first AI at the start of the 2nd year whereas in this game with 475 vs. 283 planets, the colony rush did not end until the middle of the 2nd year so I did not take out the first AI until the end of that year.

On the weekend I started a new non-metaverse DA 1.6 Beta 2 suicide game, with a medium map, common stars, occasional planets, abundant anomalies and asteroids, and since I don't care about my score I have all victory conditions set. I'm playing a custom super warrior race against the 6 AI players all set to Ultimate! I chose what I believe to be the 2 strongest from each ethical group: good (Altarian Resistance and Drath Legion), neutral (Thalan Empire and Torian Confederation), and evil (Drengin and Korath). In past games I won at suicide by growing my population faster than the AI (more tax payers and troops) by keeping morale 100%, better planet development, and lighting attacks. So in this game I chose the super warrior ability (for first strike) and 40% population growth. By Apr 1st I'm 2nd for population (behind the Torian Super Breeders) and 2nd for Social Production (behind the Thalan Hive) but far behind in everything else especial my economy (because my taxes are low). In this game I have tech trading disabled which helped me keep up with the AI in research in the early game and fund my deficit economy. I don't know what bonuses the AI gets at the new Ultimate setting but it appears to be large bonuses in all the key areas: military, social, research, economy, influence, etc. With the improvements to the AI in DA 1.6 (e.g., better planetary development) and the new bonuses at Ultimate, I don't know if I'm be able to win this game, especially given all the changes since DL 1.2 and playing on a map with far fewer planets. I may have to adapt my strategies. A challenge is always fun!

Mascrinthus,

You might want to consider putting the non-mod for fun games under a second character. It gives you a nice easy way to keep track of them without needing to worry about messing with the scores on you main character.

Good luck with the game!
