I'm playing the B5 (Babylon 5) mod. Its still an early version - but its great.

When playing the normal game I never really bother paying attention to how races differ from each other, but when playing this game I certainly do.

As Earth Alliance I found myself teaming up with races just like in the series, and when as the Shadows found myself trying to manipulate the other races to war on each other, before launching an assult in all of them (just like the series).

Its so much more fun when you play races that you know.

The mod also has much more money (anomolies) which just seems to make it more fun from the outset.

I think its amazing

However the one thing lacking.... would be the facility to start the game at different periods in the B5 five year saga. E.g. You would be able to select "Year 4" and have more things already set up - e.g. the alliance has already been set up, and you are already at war both with the Vorlons and the Shadows (and most races have access to advanced capital ships). Perhaps the shadows and vorlons would each have 4 planets while the other friendly races would begin with one. The maps would still be generated on the fly. Now that would be cool

My mod is difficult to demonstrate in pictures, but here goes. The Randominator mod basically randomises various aspects of GCII each time you play, to make things harder for people who have learnt all the ins and outs of the game, forcing them to rethink their old strategies.

Link for picture

This screenshot shows a randomised Race Selection screen, with a few minors promoted to being majors, and some of the other majors shuffled a bit (changing their AI). Race abilities and starting techs are also randomised to a certain extent.

Link for picture

Here you can see your starting colony ship. In this particular game, it has no engines, but longer range and an extra colony module. Similar changes may be made to the starting survey ship, and just to round things off all core ships are removed, saving me from hitting the 'Obsolete' button whenever they turn up.

Link for picture

An unexpected bonus for the Terrans... Home systems are randomised to change PQ of existing planets (including possibly setting the second planet to Class 0) as well as the possibility of another planet in the system getting a higher PQ.

Link for picture

Something missing from this picture? Sometimes the final tech in a tree might vanish entirely. The tech costs (along with most other numerical values) are also varied between 50-150% of their default values.

Link for picture

My mod can also be combined with any other mod- in this case, Kryo's hull systems mod.

The mod can be found here
A thread for discussion of this mod can be found here

(Just a quick question while I'm here... I tried to link to FreeImageHosting using their thumnails code but it didn't work- how can I create a linked picture in this forum?)

I think this is a great idea. I'm also playing the B5 mod, as well as the star trek mod. Birney, i think that it is possible to set up the game that way. I know there is a map builder made by Ricree which is quite good, although I've not really used it much. You could build your own galaxy, and then make your own scenario. Im fairly sure its possible to make your own scenarios, though i dont have any idea how. But still, u can create the map how you want and choose to start the game already at war with some races, and on the same team as others.

The maps would still be generated on the fly. Now that would be cool

Ricree is releasing a new version of the map builder which contains a random generator aswell as other features. i believe she is about to release it very soon, maybe you should check it out.

That Blitzkrieg description is incorrect. The principles of Blitzkreig were developed in the 1800's, the Nazis just refined it to work with modern weapons etc. Looks like an awesome mod though.

Do you like eye candy? Do you wish Galactic Civilizations 2 had Higher Resolution textures? Do you wish the planets and solar systems looked more realistic? Do you think your PC can HANDLE IT?

Introducing:

The High Resolution Graphics Mod by LogicSequence

Do you like eye candy? Do you wish Galactic Civilizations 2 had Higher Resolution textures? Do you wish the planets and solar systems looked more realistic? Do you think your PC can HANDLE IT?

Welcome players of Galactic Civilizations 2, to The High Resolution Graphics Mod by LogicSequence. I've been developing this mod for some weeks now, and the time is near for it's release.

In short, this mod will:
Replace the textures for all the races' homeworlds with new, original higher resolution versions.
Replace all Class 0 planet textures with new, original higher resolution versions.
Replace all ring and moon textures with new, original higher resolution versions.
Replace all cloud textures with new, original higher resolution versions.
Include authentic all-new Raw Terrain maps for all of the races' homeworlds.
Add more color variation to the background nebulae.

This mod isn't for the older PC. Some of the textures in this mod are 4096 x 2048 pixels, and many are 2048 x 1024, or 1024 x 512. If your PC meets the recommended system requirements for Galactic Civilzations 2: Dark Avatar, you should be able to run this mod without any problems.

Screenshots:

(These are some Development screenshots of the mod in the Beta stage)
(Be forewarned, the images are hosted on a free image hosting site, and i have limited bandwidth, try not to overload it!)

1 - Not true, you're thinking of the Kesselschlacht, or "cauldron battle", developed by the Prussians in the lead up to the war of 1870, an infantry warfare tactic based on maneuver and envelopment.

Blitzkrieg can be defined as defeating the enemy by means of a strategic envelopment executed by mechanized forces, with overwhelming air-support, leading to operational collapse.

Read up on Blitzkrieg and you'll soon find that it was an ad-hoc tactic developed, contrary to both orders and German planning, and carried out by a pair of German generals (Rommel being one of them) during the Battle for France.

2 - Really unnecessary to try and point out a mistake from a guy talking about/within a computer game mod. If you're going to try and correct someone, please research what you're talking about first.

Kudos to all the mod-makers out there!

Well, I have been helping AF Ronin with his Star Trek mod. It is based off of the old boar games. Star Fleet Battles and Combat Simulator. Here are some battle shots of the Federation ships. Most of the ships in these shots are made by Ronin. A few of the ships are made by me.

In the first two shots. The ship with the warp engines close together is my design. A Destroyer class called Gettysburg Other small ships that look like fighters. Are also my design. And they are Starfighters. In the last shot, the ship to the left is a Fighter Carrier.
