Chirac (Jacques, as in leader of France) is such a moron. The clown is out today saying (basically) that we need to back off any talk of sanctions against Iran over their pursuit of what would seem to be a nuclear weapons program.
This would be the same Jacques Chirac that continued to provide toys and had what seemed to be a man-love crush on Saddam Hussien when he was leader of Iraq.
Jacques just doesn't get it. If he wants a peaceful solution to the problem in Iran he needs to twist the arms of the Iranian leaders and get them to cooperate. If they won't, then he absolutely needs to support SANCTIONS until such time as the Iranian leadership decides they want to behave and cooperate with the will of the rest of the world.
We could have avoided the war in Iraq if Chirac had exercised some more diplomacy and hadn't been cheating behind the scenes to help supply his buddy with all sorts of things that never should have gotten into Iraq. Instead, Chirac took the money, worried about himself, and refused to cooperate (he paid it a bit of lip service but privately skirted the rules...).
If you really want peaceful solutions, then work towards them and use the maximum amount of peaceful leverage you can. Don't undercut the peaceful means by deciding that your own personal wealth and well being, and that of the citizens of your own country, is more important than maintaining the balance of world peace.
