Hey Democrats! Diebold is not the boogie monster

No matter how much the Democrats would like us to believe otherwise, Diebold isn't an evil corporation, nor are they the boogie monsters that exist solely to steal elections for Republican candidates. Far from it. But.... try telling that to the people that make the stupid quotes like the one found in the article here, at the Washington Times, in reference to recent problems in the Maryland Primary Election held on September 12, 2006 (Article headline: Election chief demands solutions).
There's a few great quotes in the article, but the one I'll reference most immediately is this one:
"She needs to stop playing games and be reminded that much of the training is done by Diebold," the manufacturer of the state's electronic voting equipment, Mr. Jones said. "She keeps saying to get competent people to do the training. Well, if Diebold isn't competent, why did she hire them? She keeps pushing all of the weight on the local boards, but she has to take some weight herself."
The "She" referenced in the first line is Maryland State Board of Elections administrator Mrs. Linda H. Lamone. The Mr. Jones referenced in the clip is Baltimore Board of Elections President Armstead B.C. Jones Sr.
Both of these apparently well meaning individuals are Democrats. Mrs. Lamone is a holdover from the Parris Glendening era in Maryland (Glendening was the Democrat Governor of the state before Republican Robert Ehrlich broke a 40 year string and became the first Republican to win the office in that amount of time). Ehrlich has tried to get Mrs. Lamone from the office but has been stymied at doing so.
I'll admit to taking a certain amount of glee at the thought that the normally quick to make the wrong decision Democrats in the state may start trying to eat their own and throw Lamone under the bus. These would be the same folks that used their power in the state legislature to make several unconstitutional moves, and moves which have since been over-turned, including trying to fire the Public Service Commission who they claim are nothing but lapdogs for the Electric Companies and big business.
They may yet do what they've not let the Governor do and replace their crony on the state board of elections because of the gross incompetence of those at lower levels. During the September 12, 2006 primary election there were numerous problems throughout several counties in Maryland. The linked article referenced above mentions most of the issues. The funny thing is though that in the areas that had the problems DEMOCRATS control the local boards of elections.
These would be the same people that seem to continually find ways to get people voting on provisional ballots. The same people that tried to open up the state to early voting and potentially open the state elections up to more potential fraud in doing so.
As with Ohio before, and with other elections throughout the country, the Democrats continue to demagogue and demonize Diebold and claim that the supposedly sacrosanct voting process is being corrupted by Diebold, the big business friends of the Republicans that have helped pull all sorts of tricks to win elections for the GOP.
Somewhere along the way Democrats will wake up and realize that Diebold isn't an evil corporation, and that they haven't done a damned thing to change the outcome of a single election. The conspiracy theorists and loons in the left may not want to believe it, but then we're talking about a crowd that wouldn't recognize a fair election if it hit 'em in the face.
