Putting Drops In A Cat's Ears

Not as easy as it sounds

Geez, who knew a cat could be so damned hard to hold on to. I'm putting the drops in Socrates' ears as the vet instructed in order to get rid of the ear mites. Of course he doesn't understand why I'm putting something wet in his ears and doesn't appreciate it much at all.

It's a real struggle to hold on to him and get the drops in his ears and then rub it around so that it makes contact where it has to do so. He fights me every step of the way. I don't want to hold his head so tightly that it hurts him so it's tough to hang on to him while he is struggling to get loose.

There has to be an easier way.

Nah, I'm a one man band. Fun? Well I guess that does have a pretty subjective definition

Knees!  Sit on the floor, and hold him with your knees.  Then do the drops.  The Indians knew that secret before the stupid white man mucked things up!

If I were physically capable of sitting on the floor that just might work

I'm thinking along the lines of a lasso and hog tie his ass.

Maybe if you squirt the stuff in his ears instead of counting drops.

I tried that. He likes it even less.

Get a blowgun and tranquilize him.

Cats are evil little creatures when you're trying to do something that involves liquid to them. They're too flexible and you can't keep them in one position...now a good ol' dog you can hold down with brute force...a cat twists like a yoga girl...but those are more fun to try and hold down.

Okay Mason, I am going to put you out of your misery.

Put the cat in a towel, wrap him up snug as a bug, put him under your arm then put the drops in, the towel must be wrapped tightly from the neck down the lebgth of the body, snug snug snug.

wrapped like a cocoon, no paws - no claws!

It is when it makes him fight even more.

Yeah, I may have to do that. He doesn't try to bite or scratch, just wiggle free. The towel idea may make it easier to hold on to him. I'll give it a try this evening.

Hope it worked out. I've not been on much in two days so didn't realise he was sick? Hope he's better soon.

Not really sick. When I took him to the vet they said he has ear mites and the drops are to get rid of them.
