Start early, spread fast, invest into weaponry as soon as possible and wrest control from enemy resources that you find in the universe. Don't try to start a war with half the galaxy, and don't start something you aren't sure you can finish. The best start is with a custom civ or the Yor, maybe even the Drath, take the Industrialists for the political party, and a bonus in Social, Military production and either Weapons or Population Growth. Being evil is what conquest civilizations normally do, because the very sick starbase bonuses become free.

No because of the pysionic beam that has 12 attack.

Technologist (20% Research bonus) and Neutral.
Get the Neutrality Learning Centers as soon as possible, then go for Doomray.
At 22 attack they beat the crap out of Psyco Beams.

With enough research no one can touch what you can build. Grab a couple research and econ resources and you'll be set with cash and superior tech.

Black Hole Eruptor > Doom Ray.

Build up a massive economy and research civilization. If you have more money and technology, its hard to lose.

Get Space Weapons/Militarization but don't bother with anything else military for a while. Concentrate on research/industry/economy technologies. Grab logistics/medium ships at some point. Wait for technologies to drop below 10 turns, preferably 6-8 before getting them. If an AI declares war on you, drop everything and get weapons and defenses tailored to beat the civ you're fighting. You'll have plenty of time to build up since the AI never concentrates its ships before declaring war.

Then stomp it into the ground.

Repeat.

I find the best thing to do is play offensively. Defensive tactics just don't work well in this game. It's better to destory an enemy ship before it can get to a planet than to try and defend a planet after an enemy ship has already arrived. It's too bad because playing defensively could be fun as well.

Black Hole Eruptor > Doom Ray.

The numbers are higher for the Black Hole Eruptor and Black Hole Generator, true.
But, Doomray is a faster research path so it can be obtained a little earlier in the game.

And like all weapons and defenses, the most important thing is what the enemy has at the time you go to war.

I usually get the Doomray, then concentrate on getting the highest defense tech I can based on what the AI's are building up. Then head for the other two weapons techs.

Another good thing about the beam weapons, it is easier to use up all the space on your ships. For example, you might have room for 1.5 missiles each of attack strength 2 or 3 lasers each of strength 1 but you can't place 1.5 missiles on a ship so you place 1 missile and have wasted space.

Do not pass over soldiering bonuses if you want to conquer the universe. You could blow up any ships in the sky but if you have lousy soldiers, good luck on capturing planets with huge populations without damaging it severly. With 41 vs 0, you could take on a 14 B planet with only 2 B and suffer only light casualties.

Hmm All Pretty Good Stratiges But I Usally Get Space Weapons & Planetary Invasion& Kill Off Most Before They Start Anything But Spreading Out

Enjoy while it lasts - if I read the latest dev blogs right, that's gonna change soon.

According to the v1.3 change log, that is no longer the case. I need to hurry up and complete my current v1.2 Metaverse game (started in July!) so I can try v1.3!

Don't forget to bribe other races into attacking each other. Bribe them with ships that use weapons that you don't, that way the whole universe starts defending against one weapon tech, and you're using a different one.

Plus they can weaken each other for you.

You won't be conquering anything until you get to Planetary Invasion tech -- and even once you get there, you need to research a few more techs to get your soldiering up.

There's no point in going to war before that.

Make sure you're always the #1 civilization militarily so that other civs won't declare war on you first. Once you take down the first civ, it's just a mop up operation.

Get a good economy, your military powers can only go as far as your economy lets it.

some ponits are that if you have a planet with a booming pop. , make transports on that planet, always have transports escorted or arm it with weapons and addional troop carriars.

if you have a strong opponent bordering you and you want to take them out construct militay starbases in the frontier systems and ally with someone strong and bordering the common enemy and they will topal easy.

and lastly find a weapon that enemy is not researshing defences for and arm your ships with it, by the time they muster defences for your weapons you should have reduced the enemy to just a couple of systems
