Idea for Epic Generator

I have an idea that could be cool with the Epic Generator.

It could create things like the Battle of Devoa or something. What I mean is that if there are alot of battles in a certain amount of time in an area like one or two sectors, but if there were ALOT of battles with small ships say 20 or so with small fleets of maybe 2 ships each it would record the period as a battle but not if there are only a few small fights. However if there are several BIG fleet fights in one area with lots of casualties it could record it as a battle.

I think this could be a cool idea since it would record massive parts of a war. Another idea could be if the human player decided to attack one area first and just sweeps the whole area in one week and then turn to the rest of the enemy empire (a tactic I sometimes use) it would record that as some kind of maneuver maybe.

It would probably be a little much to have the Epic Generator label attacks and movements as flanking moves, pincer attacks, hammer thrusts, etc, because that would get complicated and the player of the game (and author of the Epic Generator) could add that stuff in.

As far as naming the battle, I guess use the nearest star system to the set of fleet battles, it's kind of the same in military battles in RL as they are often named for a nearby town or something.

Star Trek Armada II had a feature very similar in its "Admiral's log" which is like an epic generator, but it doesn't tell a story like this one does.

It would have like

"Battle of Reticuli IV"

then a list of the players, fleets and ships involved.

Then it would end with either "Victory" or "Defeat" depending on how well the battle went.

It was a very good retrospective on the battles during the game and the losses you took each time

I played a PBM (play by mail, yea before PBEM) game (well old, 15+ yrs ago) and that had a battle description generator. The game was Adventurer Kings I believe and the battle description was about a paragrapth (10 lines max. long), it made the game a real hit at the time. I played about a dozen games of Adventurer Kings and very rarely did I get the same battle description, must of had 100+ descriptions or be randomly generated. It was a fantasy strategy game but same principal as this epic generator.

yea I kind of got the idea from a random thought about battles and the Star Trek Battle of Wolf (some number) where they fought a big one against the Borg, I was also thinking of RL battles, mainly ones from the Civil war and WWII.

Plus in the game I'm doing, I had some sweeping conquest battles, although the battles tend to be rather spread out or right on the planets (I'm doing challenging difficulty) since I tend to do a massive hammer blow when I start a war and end up fighting mainly ships around planets.

Still, it should be a nice feature when faced with a strong enemy and there are lots of fleet battles.

...Star Trek Battle of Wolf (some number)...

The Battle of Wolf 359

thanks, exact star names can be hard to remember when they have a bunch of numbers after them.

I was wondering how the story would be viewed once generated. If it would be in game or through notepad, maybe both. I'm pretty sure you will be able to, but I want to be able to add my own parts and such personalize it a little more for posting and such, as there will no doubt be a lot posted. I'm looking forward to reading and posting them.

The graveyard scene from Wolf 359 was just chilling. A great episode. Just be glad it wasn't Lalande 21185 or Luyten 722-22A.

I was thinking that a pair of famous ships could be the focus of the fight, like the HMS Hood vs the Bismarck. It was a disasterous loss for British pride, and amazing how quickly it ended. Or, you could mention the "hunt" for one special enemy vessel, again with the Bismarck or the Yamato or the Graf Spee. Might look strange with the way the AI names ships, but it's an idea.

I often have an easier time remembering numbers than people's names.

When you do, let me know I'll add it to my collection.

The idea behind this is to record the notable battles during a war you are having.

An example of a historical one could be any major battle during WWII such as the Battle of Midway or the Battle of Stalingrad, or even from the Civil War such as Gettysburg, Antietam, or Shiloh. While the battles I mentioned would be way more detailed than we need because the Epic Generator won't be able to interpret flanking maneuvers, etc.

Yeah I just assumed it would be like RTW and would clasify battles as Heroic, Large, Epic and what not and maybe mark the location with some marker you could read. Other ideas would be renaming ships, planets and stars after victorious leaders be it military or civilian. <-- this done by the computer of course as an event.

I have a question will ground combat change at all. It seems so generic. I would, if nothing else like to see evil, good, and neutral armies. But a best case would be race specific armies or even customizable ones. Like Armor focused, troop focused, or air power focused or even mechs. I mean think about the techs that could create. Cloning, military institutes, droids, hover warfare, mechs, you name it.
