Metaverse scoring

I know that the size of the galaxy you play effects the total score a LOT, however does the difficulty level you play on effect the Metaverse score or is that just for bragging rights?

Yes it effects the score or yes it is just for bragging rights? Ok then the next question is how and is there any kind of formula, I need to be ranked higher then 684 that is very depressing LOL

Yes it affects the score and yes it is for bragging rights as well. The best way to increase your Metaverse ranking is to:
(1) play more games
(2) play at higher levels
(3) win through military victory
(4) play larger universes

(5) have a high population
(6) build a massive economy
(7) max out your influence rating
(8) research everything in sight, and keep your research level high at the end of the game

Thanks all for the info, I doubt I will ever break into the top 25 but at least now I know what affects the scores.

Good line of questions. I was a big fan of GalCiv1, I kind of wish I would have started back then I probably could be up there. Instead I started...well...today.

It's not to late to crack the top 25. If you look, some of the people in the top ranks don't have that many games posted...

Yeah they just seem to have played games on massive maps and have managed to end with some bulked out tidy scores.

Thanks for rounding that out for us a bit.

It would seem that the difficulty level at which you have your opponents seems to affect the final score as well, i.e. if only one is selt at gifted the and the rest set much lower the score won't be as crazy as if more of your opponents are ranked at a higher level. Feel free to correct me here peoples.

It would seem that Gigantic maps earn your mega points

Interestingly, one guy in the current top 10 has a game in his profile which was played on a Huge map, it is listed as havng gone for 0 years and he managed to snatch huge points for it!? What the!?

Huge exploit in teh current build.

I understand research everything. Should I be trying to win my mil conquest as soon as I can after I have the Tech Vic tec?

If you are looking for points, always do a military victory. The type of victory condition acts as a multiplier (I don't have the numbers at hand, but I have seen them on the forums before) and military is the highest multiplier. Also, it is my understanding that you keep collecting victory points for research even after you have fully researched the tech tree.

As a side note, the multiplier for difficulty level is not that great and is probably not worth it at suicidal. You will note a lot of the top players don't play suicidal....I do, but the extra bit challenge is worth more to me than the points. I suspect that is true for the others running their games cranked up.

Play big, play difficult, and conquer the galaxy fast. Do that 3 or 4 times and you'll be in the top 25. The trick is learing how to do it. Takes a number of games.

Playing big is probably most important. I've gotten higher scores on lower difficulties with some games. Masochistic is probably the best for scoring points. I also play Suicidal not for the points, but because I can't always win and like the challenge. It's also bragging rights. Game length seems to get you only when games get really long. I think there's a couple sweet spots, one around 4 years and the other around 8. That sweet spot around 4 years is very elusive.
