Electronic Arts has issued more details on the recently announced update to its seminal MMORPG Ultima Online today. As mentioned earlier, Ultima Online: Kingdom Reborn is to be more than just a simple expansion, bringing not only new content, but a full overhaul to the nine year old title and a new "state-of-the-art user interface."
"It's been nine years since Ultima Online first proved that online games could be very popular," said EA Mythic General Manager, Mark Jacobs. "And now, thanks to the hard work and dedication of the UO team and the support of the players over the years, a new day is dawning for this groundbreaking game."
The upgrade has the development team "re-drawing more than 9,000 pieces of art" which will map the world of Ultima Online and take advantage of 3D-accelerated special effects. The changes will give the game a whole new look, while maintaining the original prospective. EA Mythic is also creating a new playable race, and updating or enhancing many of the titles features including "epic battles versus powerful monsters, deep dangerous dungeons, player-versus-player combat, creative housing design, crafting," and more to be announced later this year.
