Too expensive, at least for now. I'll probably just get a Wii to replace my Cube, and stick with the PS2 for a while longer.

If the system is going to be $500 -$600 I might as well just upgrade my computer.

My thoughts exactly Lord Nova, with that much I could get a new mobo, a new CPU, and a new videocard, which would easily make my system 5-10x better. I myself am going to get a Wii, I don't know if I will ever get a Xbox360, maybe when I move out of my home or summat.

Problem is, MS and Sony are pushing publishers to only produce games on their console (and not release on the PC). For example, Mass Effect will only be on the XBox 360, and not on the PC. I too agree with Lord Nova and would rather just upgrade my PC as they will soon - if not already - be better than the consoles. But if publishers keep making arrangements like these for what turn out to be popular titles, I'm going to be very sore about it.

I'm sure they will eventually come out on PC. Look at Halo and the GTA's. Both were touted as exclusive to the Xbox and PS2, respectively, and yet they are now on PC. Granted it took them, what, a year to come out?

Personally, I am just tired of most of the console BS. With hard drives and downloadable content, console games are rushed out buggy and undone. One of my biggest reasons to buy a console and games, that they CAN'T be updated and so must be finished at release, is slowly slipping away.

Also, the price of the next gen systems is pretty outrageous, and I have no interest in an HD-DVD or Blu-ray drive. I buy my console to play games. Nothing more. I'm sad I seem to be in the minority. The only console that I may buy at the moment is the Wii. It's got some interesting and different games and ideas goin for it, and I respect that Nintendo is taking a risk to give people something totally different and new.

So, the people that buy a PS3 or Xbox 360, I really hope you enjoy it. But I just wont be getting one.

I'd get a ps3 for final fantasy 13. By then they'll be cheaper. Although the consoles are expensive what I object to most is spending £50 on a ps3 or xbox360 game when the same title is available on PC for £30.

I think you're being a bit naive if you expect them to be E450 at launch.

Plus Sony still dont' seem to have so much as a working demo model...

I *was* going to get it for MGS4, but realised frankly I really can't stand either sony or the PS3. I'd run straight back and buy one if they confirmed a remake of FF7, but sadly it seems like that was just a tech demo. So I'll be getting my first Ibanez instead.

My computor is already better then both consoles.

And games likes Crysis will only come out for the computor.

Crysis = best looking game todate that i have seen...

Also other games that only work on computors

QuakeWars
Hellgate

Both of these most likely will be ported but they will play poorly.

Already have a Quake Wars clan. Just waiting for the game now and to make some money

Even if publishers are pushed to make games just for the consoles, it's still pretty dumb to not release games on the PC (a market is a market). The other thing to keep in mind is the fact that most console games and PC games usually appeal to the lowest common denominator which is why I usually try to find good mods for games on the PC. Also PC online gaming has had a head start on consoles for nearly 15 years. Why would I want to play 32player halo when I could play 64player Forgotton Hope on big maps with realistic values for the weapons?

I played Quake Wars at Quakecon. I'm actually way more excited about mods for it since there are some things that really annoy me about Quake Wars (Bullets hurt the Goliath MECH.... WTF?!!)

Did someone say 600 dollars for a PS3??  I wouldn't pay that much for a lot of things. I'd be better off taking 600 dollars and putting into my college fund.

I think I'll be content with my Nintendo system.

600 dollars??? I still can't get over that.

It's Wii all the way for me. The other consoles are not only far too expensive, but also ultimately offer nothing useful that their predecessors didn't already have.

The Wii is also going to be the console that will make any kind of real impact on the PC gaming market. Certain genres of games are typically limited to the PC due to the fact that a gamepad simply can't provide the same level of precision as a mouse; however, the Wiimote bridges this gap. We may very well end up seeing a vast multitude of PC titles being ported to the Wii--and the other consoles missing out on it.

Throw in the Wii's architecture (which is easy to develop for) and the Virtual Console, and you've also got yourself a paradise for indie game developers; heck, maybe we'll even see GalCiv III released for the Wii someday...

The Wii got SNK support. If it turns out they release their fighters for it, then I'll pick it up. Otherwise, I'll just quit and stick with emulation- none of the X360 games excited me at all, and the PS3 seems worse, and I don't feel like shelling out $600 for crap. The PS2 is perfectly fine for what I want in a console anyways- I might get more value getting an import chip for the PS2 anyways.

The best thing about the Wii is that it opens the door for logitech to make a motion sensor mouse and hopefully more games where mouse movements translates into different moves or abilities.

Similar to how the rumble feature is now in almost every gaming device (yay for force feedback).

Ah, it's always good to have a few consoles, for example Halo released a for the Xbox a fairly long time before coming to the PC. Also you don't have to do anything with a console for years, just buy new games.

And for the answer to the orginal question, no I wouldn't ever buy a PS3, I love my Xbox and i'm perfecly fine with my Xbox 360.

I'm not going to bother with the PS3 either, sure its powerful but that $600 price tag is way to expensive for my tastes, plus they aren't really comming out with any titles that interest me all that much. I never did like sony consoles that much any way. I got the PS1 but only after the PS2 came out sometime. I might get an Xbox 360 in the future some time if and when they come out with some more enticing games. I'm definately going with the Wii. Taking out a reservation and everything, when you finally can. The price isn't outrageous, the Wiimote looks like an innovative addition to play, and they already have announced some interesting game that im already dying to play. Smash Brothers Brawl and Twilight Princess. The other developers seem to think better graphics equals better games, so they don't do anything to enhance game play, leaving that kind of thing up to the game designers. What Nintendo did forces the game designers a chance to think differently and explore new creative outlets. What's the point of playing games if the experience is going to be the same over and over again.

Yeah, I will buy one. Of course I will wait until the price drops. Besides, the first generation games developed for consoles usually aren't as good as they can be so it's not like I'm going to be missing much at first. Until then my trusty PS2 and desktop will suffice. Hell, between GC2 and Civ4 I don't have enough time to even think of playing the console! And then there's the Sims2, and Simcity4, and Pirates, and so on,,,,, lol.

I much prefer the pc for gaming, but consoles do have their place. For instance, if I have some friends over, it's not much fun for them to watch me play a game on the pc, but its cool for all of us to take turns stomping each other at tekken or madden.
