download only?

i was reading up on the expansion and saw its going to be a download only thing. gotta admit to being seriously put off by that. there are some people that are still on dialup (yeah i know harhar but i cant get anythinb but dialup where i am). does anyone at Stardock realize how long it would take for someone on dialup to get the expansion downloaded?! i'm pleading with you Stardock NOT to make it a download only expansion! i enjoy galciv2 way to much to get burned by not being able to get the expansion

Reading the whole story is good

So do you have to either order the cd off the internet or download it?

Really this is just a case of kill the middle man, it cuts out people like best buy, gamestops, and others in an effort to keep the orders more effective.. which is interesting because this is the only case where it is truely more effective.. I got some broken CD's when I bought the game from a retailer and then shipped em to my new residence (it was during this time they had broken) and had I have just ordered the games from Star Dock I would still have a functional copy

Anyways, you can either order the CD off of this site or download it or you can actually do both just because.. with any of these options though you're gonna be able to get the nice little serial key that makes it so you never have to spend money on replacing damaged copies or lost download files

2 more weeks master Devses.. and I will make the Galaxy Burn!

What good would the CD be anyway ? You'll probably immeadiately need to download 6 patches for it anyway.

How are you managing playing the current game ?

Dont tell me you're still playing version 1...

Problem: some of us like to avoid buying online, and enjoy having our pretty boxes to display. Downloading is great, but I would like the option to go into any media retailer and pick up a box. I love and enjoy the feel of it in my hands as I purchase it, as odd as it may sound. CDs break, yes. But if you are careful with it, and don't just toss them about, they should be in tip-top shape.

I try to avoid buying online as it entails either credit, debit, or bank cards. I do not like them too much as you can go overboard, things can be stolen, etc. With no option to get at the retailers, this really cuts out a large portion of potential customers who would otherwise have bought it. Give me the option to purchase at Best Buy, my favorite place to get games.

Sorry, but there are no plans for Dark Avatar to be available at retail right now. If you are concerned about online security, however, you can contact [email protected] about doing a mail-order for the CD. It won't be a full retail box, but it should look good enough in its DVD box that you won't mind having it on your shelf

That still includes going online to get it, and waiting for it to be shipped. I'm an impatient person at times, and when I want a game, I want the ability to just walk into a retailer and pick up a box.

This mays save you all money, doing the online only route, but you also lose money by not doing any retail sales.

There's an "about" section around here somewhere where Brad talks about how he's been seriously ripped-off in the past by 3rd party game plublishers. He states they're a lot more of a threat than software pirates. Totally understand where Stardock is coming from after reading that. There's a hell of a lot less risk and expense involved in doing a product via download as opposed to doing all the print and distribution required to put it on store shelves. I don't really have a problem with their approach, but I did buy my copy of CG2 off the shelf. I probably would have bought it even if I had to download it, but I do prefer a nice package and media myself.
