Wanna Go Outside

Up until tonight Socrates has express no interest at all in going outside. In fact the few times I have carried him outside he has been scared near to death and clung to me for protection.

Tonight I rode to the C-store to get a couple of beers. When I got back he was sitting directly in front of the door when I opened it. He stuck his head out and sniffed around a bit and then I shooed him back so I could get inside and close the door. For a few minutes after that he meowed and clawed at the door and looked at me like "let me out there, I wanna see".

That's a first as he has never tried to get out before. I guess it's time to start leash training him.

Yep, time to do that. I remembered when I had my cats (many moons ago) they were house cats until they got a taste of the outside. Then they spent most of their time roaming outside and would come inside for food and sleeping.

I won't allow him to roam outside. I've seen too many street pizzas. But I will train him on a leash so he can enjoy the outdoors. Besides, if I ever get healed up enough to go long distance hiking again he'll have to go with me.

Good lord, tent training a cat! I can't even image as I'm typing this with him pouncing on head from the wall shelf!

Ah, he's finally realised the big inside world is not so big and now wants to see what the big outside world looks like. Good luck with the leash training.

On another note, our cat is an indoors cat. She is used to it, although I'm sure she would love to spend some time outside. My biggest concern is that she is a natural hunter and will kill any of the beautiful native birds we get in our garden without hesitation.

The first time Sally darted out, she realized something was different, and froze!  So it was easy to pick her up and bring her in.  She is fine outside now, and if she does scoot out, a lot harder to catch!

I always let my cat outside....in fact he spends much of his time out there. I live in a rural area....so not too worried about road pizza. I try and get the little guy out as much as possible.....keeps the litterbox from getting too full, and I hate cleaning that stupid thing.
