Who will and who should voters blame?

Who will and who should voters blame?

The U.S. Senate failed to pass a very significant increase in the minimum wage thanks to a vote that drew very little Democratic support -- in fact, just the opposite occured. Rather than supporting what has been a long stated goal (raising the minimum wage), the Democrats claimed that the Republicans were playing politics with the issue thanks to tieing the increase in the minimum wage to further cuts in the "death tax."

Democrats claim that the cuts in the estate tax would only benefit the truly wealthy and are unnecessary, even though it has been proven multiples of times that the money that is taxed via the inheritance tax (death tax) has already been taxed many times along the way.

So, given the possibility of a more than $2 an hour increase in the minimum wage tied to increases in the exemptions for when and where the inheritance tax would apply, the Democrats have decided to call the Republican bill a cynical political ploy.

What the Democrats failed to mention is that the same bill also would have serious benefits for teachers, college students and businesses -- all of which would have received further tax breaks.

I'll have a few more words in the commentary area. Please feel free to leave your own thoughts there too, especially on what you believe the repurcusions will be for either party.

The comments about the farms are dead on. There was an excellent article in, of all places, the Washington Post -- normally a rag I reserve for lining the cages my birds are housed in (so they can use it for TP, since it's too cheap to wipe my arse with) -- on the effect of Tobacco deregulation and what it was doing to farmers. Some farmers in Virginia are "back in business" for themselves, but as usual are "poor" because of the aftereffects of regulations that have been wiped away, along with subsidies and other crutches. Though they are happier about being able to work more land, they still aren't making money and having to pay for irrigation costs, equipment and infrastructure costs, property taxes and many other things are breaking them down little by little.

Those people are hit incredibly hard by well meaning regulation that was supposed to only impact the rich. It turns out the property they are farming is worth way too much if it becomes a nice big housing development with huge McMansions sitting side by side, with cul de sacs of asphault that sits and absorbs heat and reflects it back up at us generating more warming.

Is it right that those people are basically forced to sell their family farms and turn them into yet more over-developed housing tracts?

The best laid plans, and the best intentions pave the way to hell and just about every day people on all sides pay more than they should for everything in our country because of tax hits that are passed along.

People on the left don't believe in trickle down at all. Damned shame since it's exactly how taxes do get paid. The people with money -- including those "responsible wealthy" people that Loca wants to have such faith in -- don't have to worry about such trivial things. Think Leona Helmsley (look her up if needed) and that famous "taxes are for the little people" line. The little people do pay the taxes because they don't have the lawyers and accountants on retainer like the Gates, Buffets, Soros and others do. Those people avoid paying their fair share every day, while people like *us*, the regular Joe and Jill Users out there are sapped of our financial resources so we can help fuel the governments demands for more and more money.

Loca, you are welcome to pay more if you want. Hell, so can Bill Gates, Buffet, Soros, Heinz, and a host of others that claim to be volunteering. I challenge those rat bastards to stop using the dodges and shelters right now. Stop using trusts and other means of avoiding paying taxes and just let the government have the money now. Give it to them now and then tell us how the government isn't doing enough and should be taking more and then I might believe the b.s.

Meanwhile NOT passing this bill was a crime against the enslaved by the slave masters in the Democratic party. They can't afford to empower, so again, they continue to enslave.
