You need to download and install CursorXP (the program) from here: Link first.

Then reboot and your *.curXPtheme files should install automatically upon douple-clicking on them.

just rename the .zip extension to .curxptheme, and open the file with cursor xp

No, do that right after you downloaded the file. But only do that when the file downloads as a *.zip file instead of a *.curXPtheme.

If the file downloads as a *.curXPTheme (it has to have that extension)try to manually move the file into your CursorXP\themes -folder.

Exactly which cursor did you download?

I am not on a English speaking system at the moment but I try to help you as good as possible.

Open up Windows Explorer, then go to Tools > Options (or maybe Folderoptions) > View > and uncheck/untick "Hide extensions for known file types" > click on OK.

After you have done this, check again your downloaded file:

1. is it a *.curXPtheme file (does it say that after the point?)

if yes, try to double-click on it, if nothing happens try to copy (right click > copy) the file and then navigate to your C:\CursorXP\themes -folder and paste it into this folder (right-click onto the themes folder and "paste")

2. is it a *.zip file?

if yes, right-click onto this file > rename > and change the part after the point from zip to CurXPTheme. Hit the "Enter" key, and you will get asked whether you really want to do this. Say yes.

Then try again to double-click on the file or move it as describe above.

I am going to download the file you mentioned and try it, but I don't have CursorXP installed on this system.

What exactly did you do? Can you try and download a different theme?

Once the file has the extension *.curXPtheme , does Windows change the icon for it? It should. Otherwise it might be an indication that CursorXP is not installed correctly on your computer. Did you restart the computer after you installed CursorXP on it?

Does Cursor XP show up in your Programs-List? Does it show up in your "Add or Remove Sofware"-list (that's in your Control Panel).

aufisch's reply above ...translated to Dutch via babelfish..

Hope this helps a little, Esther

I just had an idea, and I probably should have asked this earlier but:

Do you run WindowsXP or Windows98?

[Thanks Wreckless Eric   ]

I think the problem is she is unzipping (or tring to) a .CurXPTheme file to use it. If you download a cursor and its extension is .CurXPTheme then all is well.. just place it in the skins/theme folder and it should appear. No unzipping ect. needed

If Windows is asking you what program to use to open CurXPtheme-files that means one of the following:

1. CursorXP (the software program, see the Link in my first answer, klick on the word "Link") is not installed on your system, or did not correctly install.

Solution: Download and install CursorXP (the software program, click on the word "Link" in my first answer to go to the CursorXP website and then click on "try"). If you already installed it, uninstall it > reboot the computer > reinstall the software program > reboot the computer again.

2. Windows somehow lost its association with CurXPTheme-files (less likely)

Solution: When Windows asks you for the Program to open the files: click on "browse" and point to your CursorXP.exe file. !!This File is only on your computer if CursorXP (the software program) is installed on your computer!! You can either find this file in C:\Program Files(or Dutch variation)\CursorXP or, in C:\Program Files\Stardock\CursorXP.
