If you build a tradable good on one planet does it only get traded if you launch a trade ship from that planet or does it just apply accross the board?

First time post so I should also mention WHAT A GREAT BLOODY GAME (I love it loads)

You can trade it via the trade screen. You don't need to establish trade routes with a particular race in order to sell them a trade good. The only limitation is that you can only sell it to races you've come in contact with, obviously.

Can you trade it or keep its bonuses after you traded it?

Of course. It's sort of like a cross between a tech and a wonder; it's yours forever, but you can share it's power with as many other people as you like. You can't take it back even if there's a war or something, but they can't trade it with others.

For example, if you gave Gravity Accelerators to the Korx, your ships would still have the bonus; their ships would as well. If you later went to war, the Korx would still get the speed bonus; they keep it forever. But they couldn't sell that bonus to the Drengin. If the Drengin wanted gravity accelerators, they'd have to come to you.

Ah, but if you built the Accelerators and the Korx later take the planet it was built on, you will lose the bonus. It's actually better to let someone else spend their time, money, and planetary tile on building it, then trade something like Stinger III for the trade good and some cash.

The only time I build one of these things any more is if I really don't want anyone else to have it or I'm impatient and don't want to wait for the AI races to get around to building it.

I wonder what would happen in this circumstance, though:

If you have traded for (for instance) Micro Repair Bots, then later on you take the planet they were built on, then later still you lose that planet again; do you still have the bonus? Or will it evaporte because you "owned" it and then lost it?

Obviously you should keep the bonus because you traded for it initially, but does anybody know if that is what actually happens?

Ok, thanks for the help.

I think i was initially confused thinking that you traded them with the trade ships. But I see now that their benefit is just as a cash cow apart from the inherant qualities bestowed on your own civ.

Ta for the tips.

I just wish I had more time in the day to play this game... *considers quitting job and dumping girlfriend for GalCiv*

Actually, VanCam, there is more of a benefit with trade than just generating cash. You'll find some experienced players reserve their freighters and send them to civilizations that have a higher chance of attacking. Trading with a race can improve your diplomatic relations with that particular civs, or at least give them an incentive to not break it off by attacking.
