I heard a talk show host talking about the World Cup.  And he was yuck yucking about The French and the Head Butting Episode.  But then he said something that made me stop and consider. He said the French were the most liberal society out there!

Discounting Communism (which is just a despotic dictatorship anyway), he is right.

During 04, Kerry was called the "French Candidate".  Mostly for his snobbish ways.  But it stuck.  Then we had Dean that decides that all who do not believe as he does is guilty without benefit of trial or indictment.

Well, guess what?  There are 2 prevailing methods of jurisprudence in the free world (we will discount the slavers of Africa and the Communist of china and such).  One is the old English common law that our laws are based upon.  Presumption of innocence until proven Guilty.

Then there is the second oldest democracy.  One based upon Napoleonic law.  The French.  Presumption of guilt until proven innocent.  And in that the liberals are trying to implement Napoleonic laws upon America.  But then they are liberal after all, as is France.  I guess that is why I am no longer surprised.

Have you heard about Holland?

The Dutch are trying to make pedophilia legal.
Why not? They already allow prostitution, gay mariage and illicit drug use (I got into it with a guy one time about that one. He said that there was no drug crime in Holland, so it should be legalized here because the crime rate would drop. I pointed out that it was hard to have crime over something that's legal).

Why not let perverted adults screw innocent children and get away with it? Right?

I'm being pedantic I know, but 'illicit' means 'not sanctioned by custom or law', so in Holland's case, these drugs are neither illegal or illicit.

As soon as I posted, I knew someone would call me on this. "Pedant" away....as long as you got what I meant.

By the way; it feels kind of lame to have mentioned the whole thing about my "getting into it" with that guy.
The reason I was did so was, I'm not the greatest debater, see. I don't think fast enough, or deep enough, for that matter.
That was one of the few times I had a halfway decent comeback argument pop right into my head. I was proud of myself!

The Dutch have one great redeeming quality (at least to Americans).  They have the longest period of peaceful relations with the US of any Country in the world.
