i am afraid i am gonna have to back up unfun here. i have read most of what he has been posting lately, and i have come to the conclusion that he has NOT really been bragging. having figured out what he has does not make him a super player or stud by any means. he has not said otherwise. he just comes across as somewhat of a braggart because he is a somewhat stereotypical computer geek-in-training. social skills are not his forte. he is going to school for computer science, not to become a diplomat. he is fairly young, and prone to the shortcomming associated with this. he found it an interesting and useful exercise to try to derive the algorithms that the ai uses because that's the way he is bent, not because he want's to pwn youz.

part of the misunderstanding is because his statements have been very terse, and lacking in grace or social sensitivity. he DOES come across as somewhat of a prick, but other ppl have willfully read in much that he didn't intend in his very short statements. they saw these as bait it seems, escalated the 'battle' and he, being young, took the bait on some ocasions. THAT is how this got so dramatic. he has tried to be mature at least half the time, but he has already been branded so it just goes on, and on.

ok, let me try to go over my read on him and you concider what his statements mean if i am correct about him.

young- not always mature enough to ignore ppl when he should(baitable). selfevident, not stated

computer science student- interested in things programming related, like algorithms(geek). such things are actually USEFUL to him, helping him learn his craft, or at least maintain enough interest to stay in class - stated by him

somewhat limited sociability- prone to speaking simply and directly(terse)- self evident



i believe a review of his opening salvo is in order
[How? I will personally teach each member how to take tried and true algorithms and apply them to the game, thus maximizing your scores and being able to defeat Suicidal AI on a regular basis. I expect scores between 90,000-250,000 per game. My scores will, of course, be quite a bit higher than this (I will not teach all of my findings. I aim for 300-400~, and have achieved it in a metaverse game as well as several test singleplayer games). If you do not belive me, check the rankings. I achieved 3rd place with two games, one of which was a game for fun, the other a game to achieve a high score. ]

i will not teach all of my findings. here is the core of the problem. take a deep breath and read it again. it does NOT say i will teach you all of my tricks for pwning you and this game.it does NOT say i am a game god, come pray at my altar and i will grant you the power to rule over lesser men. it says nothing more than that he will only teach you the portions of his study that applies to this experiment. and that portion should be enough to get you in the 300-400 pt range.

not believe...check the ranking. notice the lack of !!! and how he drops it soon after. this is not some punk bragging about how amazing he is. it is a guy with out the social skill to couch this statement in such a way as make it impossible for a group of readers(accustomed to being periodically aggrivated by selfimportant blowhard braggarts) from seeing it as bragadocia, rather than as a request.

now, i am NOT suggesting he is owed an apology. he DID fail to take into account his audience. but PLEASE, cut him some slack at this point. if in the future he does something to support the 'bragging prick' hypothesis, THEN give him hell. but for now try to give him the benefit of the doubt and bank your flames.

and as to his showing up on the orca thread. another mistake on his part, and i believe he made some sort of appology there so...more support for the 'young' hypothesis. that is a dead subject now, right? right?

wether or not he SHOULD be proforming his experiment ,on the other hand, is completly appropriate to discuss

How is recruitment going? Are you still looking for players?.. I'd give you a couple of evenings of my life (no more, as I assume it is as interesting a watching paint dry) to try out your methods if you are interested.

I was agreeing with your post.

There is uncalled for flaming of someone whose major crimes are lack of sensitivity and commumnication.

xpyre, if you can beat tough without too much difficulty, I would love your help. Oh, and before someone thinks I am asking for tough+ players because I want an "elite" group and whatnot, this is not the case. I need players who know the game quite well as is so I can go over only what I have found and nothing extra to minimize the amount of time spent on this.

P0rcup1ne, a very interesting post and character study of sorts. In real life I actually never do talk like this; however, I suppose my more computer-geek side comes out when I'm on a... computer . I did not know it resulted in anyone thinking I was a prick, I do hope that's not the case. I like to be as friendly as possible with everyone, although that can be hard at times.

Anyway, to update anyone interested, I have emailed my current findings to carielf. I only have two more things I want to really do.

1. Email her with actual psuedocode examples of how to fix certain areas.

2. Get something from my friend as a last part of the experiment.

After 1 and 2 are complete, you guys can safely see my score go down or vanish (whatever the admins want). So hang in there!

lol, cool. i thought maybe you were somehow calling me a flamer somehow when i was trying out my peacemaker hat.

what confused me was the sentence: top post. i was reading it as 'original post' you see. trying to use that as a context for what came after hurt my poor widdle head now i see it was a statement of appreciation for my efforts. just hope it helps get this forum back to it's relativly civilized self.

just to reiterate. i was not saying you are a prick, just that when you add your terse statement to an environment where ppl expect the ocasional braggart to show up and make a nuisance of himself... in that context it can be interpreted as prickish. so what you DIDN'T say is what i think got you in trouble. needed lots of disclaimers, apologies, and fanboyisms to make it more palatable don't ya know take a look-see at your own post with that perspective and i bet you will suddenly see were some of those responses came from.
