Linux Zealots

What defines a linux zealot? I'm and avid linux fan but I'm not a zealot. I've come to the conclusion that a linux zealot is someone who demonizes other operating systems windows in particular. Hence zealots are not good people to have in your community because they are negative all they can do is say negative things about windows most of which are untrue. If you think linux in general for desktop computers is superior to windows I'm sorry but your not seeing the same reality I'm seeing.
In how many ways is windows better.
1. Software installation.
windows:Point and Click.
linux:Compile and Pray.
2. Hardware
windows:Plug and Play
linux:Plug and Pray
3. Development:
windows: Visual Studio 2004
linux: No RAD enviroment . Caveat
Mono with Glade is pretty good for RAD. I wrote a journal program in it that was only around 300 lines.

All that said I still use linux because I like the developer community not because of the user community.
Also I'm not much of a desktop user my main uses of the computer are surf the internet, write 3D graphics software and use texmacs for math papers.

Do you think Linux will ever develop to the point where it's a user-friendly operating system?

Whats user friendly?
I would say that for day to day use use linux is already user friendly well gnome 2.6 and kde3.2 are user friendly these are the desktop
enviroments for linux they can also be used in other unixes but the main development is on linux. All of the the issues I outlined are not day to day operations. I don't know if the software installation issues will be fixed I do know people are working on it. As for hardware I'd say it's getting better. Today almost all major graphics card manufactors release 3D graphics card drivers for linux just a year ago this was not the case.
But still it's a pain to install the drivers if you aren't good with computers. Nvidia which has superb drivers for linux requires you to boot up in command line mode and edit a text file to install the driver this is not user friendly at all. Of course it doesn't matter for me since I like fiddle with computers.
I don't know if all of the issues will be solved to a degree that makes linux a viable competitor for desktop users. More importantly they aren't solved now. I don't like speculating on the future because I don't know what will happen. It's a regretibly tendency of linux users to believe that linux advances faster than windows hence they'll say the linux will become super user friendly in the future. What I look at is the history of the user friendlyness of linux. And in that regard software installation and hardware compadabillity are still and have been in the past two weak points.
I do think hardware compadability is increasing just a couple of weeks ago intel released linux drivers for the wireless chips in there centrino laptop.
But software installation is still a large weak point .
What a long rambly well I hope it's at least semi coherent .
