Democrats call Zarqawi killing a stunt

Some Democrats, breaking ranks from their leadership, today said the death of terrorist leader Abu Musab Zarqawi in Iraq was a stunt to divert attention from an unpopular and hopeless war.

"This is just to cover Bush's [rear] so he doesn't have to answer" for Iraqi civilians being killed by the U.S. military and his own sagging poll numbers, said Rep. Pete Stark, California Democrat. "Iraq is still a mess -- get out."

Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich, Ohio Democrat, said Zarqawi was a small part of "a growing anti-American insurgency" and that it's time to get out.
"We're there for all the wrong reasons," Mr. Kucinich said.

Officially, Democratic leaders reacted positively to the news and praised the troops that successfully targeted al Qaeda's leader in Iraq with 500-pound bombs at his safe house 30 miles from Baghdad.

"This is a good day for the Iraqi people, the U.S. military and our intelligence community," said Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

President Bush said that yesterday's killing of the 39-year-old Jordanian-born terrorist offers an opportunity to "turn the tide" in the war and that Tuesday he will discuss with Iraqi leaders "how to best deploy America's resources in Iraq."

And these are the people who make up a large base of the democratic party. The sad thing the democratic party candidates think like these people.

They're always good for a hearty laugh aren't they?

If it WAS a stunt, I'd like to see a lot more like it.

Of course the Dems are going to downplay it; it's a big, very positive step, and they can't have that.

Exactly. Democrats don't care about winning, only losing.

Ooh, maybe the folks in that California district will finally come to their senses & dump Pete Stark. He is an evil twit, to paraphrase a liberal debating critique.

Not hardly.

But yea, ID, It was only a matter of time. I was surprised they waited a few hours to make a$$e$ os themselves.

They may not represent the stated agenda of the DNC, but they sure are the vocal mouthpieces of the DNC. Kerry even said this was a great opportunity to abort the mission and leave the Iraqis to their own devices. Nice.

Why do people elect these incredibly ridiculous idiots to public office?!?!

Because this is the democratic party base.

Apparently to these democrats, the only good blood being shed in Iraq is American blood. Perceived U.S. failures are to be praised, but successes are to be downplayed.

How pathetic can they get?

Wouldn't that have been just typical if the Bush news conference announcing Zarqawi's death had an official Democratic response, like the State of the Union?

"California congressman Pete Stark {D} has called the killing of al zarqawi a STUNT, designed to take the heat off bushes obvious failures in the Iraq war. Senator Hanoi John Kerry says, now that we have eliminated al zarqawi we should bring the troops home by years end. What a jerk!"

from my blog about general caldwell, you could have at least tiped your hat to me for inspiring this blog.

I wish they had tried it.

Won't it be interesting if the only "stunt" here turns out to be the alleged Haditha massacre? There appears to now be reason to at least question the veracity of the breathless "eyewitness" accounts.
